We were lucky to catch up with Muna Mohammad recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Muna, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I always set myself a goal and try to achieve it. I have reached the beginning of my path to success, and I will continue until I achieve the rest of my dreams and goals
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
For a long time, I have been in love with the kitchen, and I love to cook, bake, and enjoy my time in my kitchen. Since I was nine years old, I have been watching my mother how to cook and how to put her ingredients. When I grew up and after I got married, I had a dream to develop myself in the field of food and baking, and I enjoyed trying recipes from other cuisines, such as American, European, and Arab. Then, when we came to America, I still had my dream of opening my own restaurant or sweet shop. I searched a lot here for sweets, but I did not like them. I then decided to develop myself further, challenged myself, developed myself, and worked a lot on my recipes. Until the day came when I spoke to my husband that I wanted to work in the field of sweets and deliver the real taste to the customer with high quality, because I did not like the quality that I tried in the sweet shops. The first step to my success was that I received an email from the manager of Portland Saturday Market. When I met with her and the employees and saw how much they liked my products, that in itself was a challenge for me. She said that she had been searching for products as good as mine for a long time, and this increased my love for baking. When I started working in the market every Saturday and seeing my customers’ expressions and their admiration for my products made me forget about being tired and staying up late for my work. I promised myself that I would prepare everything myself, with high quality, and that my baked goods would always be fresh for them. I also prepared recipes of my own efforts, and they were a distinctive mark for me. I had clients who came every Saturday just to buy my products, and this increased my love for my work.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In all fields of work, there are things and skills that a person must develop. And The most important point in this field of work is to never give up and never let anyone bring you down. To develop your sense of creativity and taste and to listen to any criticism, because criticism in any form is to your advantage. Positive criticism will make you develop yourself and will increase your love for your work. Negative criticism will make you stronger and you will not give up because that will push you to move forward to safety and prove to everyone that Capable of everything.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The biggest challenge is to be distinct from the rest, to challenge yourself by creating new products, and to make your customers amazed by what you offer them. To develop yourself, read and search for new things, and make your mark distinctive by trying recipes from your sense of taste. Your knowledge and experiences are the basis of your success, and the most important thing is to always make your customer happy, and this is always my promise to them that they will always be happy with my products and the high quality that I provide to them. Finally, I always say no to surrender, even if you fall once, because falling will teach you to rely on yourself and become stronger afterward. Every success has a downfall, pain, fatigue, and sleepless nights. Nothing comes easy. The important thing is to challenge yourself and not give up.
