We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nadine Goritschnig a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nadine, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Growing up I cared a lot about other people’s opinions about me. I could never just simply do something I wanted to do, because I was too scared of what other people would think about me. I wouldn’t say I had it insanely hard in high school, but I was by no means the popular girl. That all changed when I moved away after I graduated in 2019. I always wanted to live in the States, and achieving that goal felt unreal at first. But from that point forward I really started to challenge myself to completely be myself and simply to not care about other people’s viewpoints about my life decisions. That being said, I constantly put myself out of my comfort zone to grow as a person and I think that had an immense contributing factor to building up resilience. As a 20-year-old girl alone across the world for the first time, it challenged me in so many different aspects of life.
I have always wanted to start a YouTube channel and being in the United States before and during covid, presented an interesting and changing time in my life. I started recording myself & my friends doing mundane things and when I finally uploaded my first video, I achieved something I’ve been dreaming of.
Nevertheless, people back home talked about it, but to my surprise, I did not really care about it. I was proud of my accomplishment and I did not let it affect me or my goal. I’m definitely grateful I had to go through challenging times growing up because it made me who I am today.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As I mentioned before, my two big goals for the longest time were moving to the States and my YouTube channel. I am constantly trying to better myself and to find my purpose in life. Since I have so many goals and interests, it’s sometimes hard to have a clear goal in front of me. As of recently, I did Vlogmas this past December which was a real challenge for me, but accomplishing that was always one of my YouTube stepping stones. I would describe myself as very open to new challenges, it excites me to get out of my comfort zone.
Traveling and meeting new people along the way, is also something I am very passionate about.
Living in Los Angeles for the past -two 1/2 years showed me how big my passion for the industry really is.
I would love to get into modeling more and some sort of acting. The whole concept of photo shoots or movie shoots fascinates me. I can see myself either in front of the camera or behind the scenes in a managing or organizational role.
My goal this year is to gain more knowledge and practical insight into the industry as well as work with creative individuals to open doors for more opportunities to come.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I do believe the most important ones would be patience, determination, and persistence. On my journey, I learned that nothing happens overnight. You have to be patient and believe that you will reach your goal. Of course, there will be setbacks and times when it seems impossible for you to ever accomplish your goals. Trusting in yourself and being determined helped me over the past years to stay on track. Being very competitive in sports growing up, gave me a sense of structure. That is when I believe I learned the importance of persistence. When you have setbacks and something is not turning out the way you particularly want to, you have to sometimes take a step back, look at it from a distance, and try again and again until you figure it out.
In conclusion, I do want to mention that it matters what you tell yourself on a day-to-day basis. If you talk poorly to yourself it definitely will reflect in some areas of your life, because you will attract negativity into it. That being said I do believe it is so important, to always see the positive in every situation you are in. Try to simply find one positive thing to be grateful for every day and it will make a huge difference.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Personally I think there is nothing better than meeting new and interesting people wherever you go. I love to work/surround myself with people that are passionate about what they do and I always try to learn at least one thing from that experience. That being said I would love to connect with creative individuals, photographers, models, and actors – basically people in the social media scene.
I am always very fascinated by how creative so many people are and I definitely want to surround myself with that kind of positivity in my life.
