Meet Nakeyta Moore

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nakeyta Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Nakeyta, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome is a continuous journey for me, and I’ve found several strategies that help manage and mitigate its effects. While I believe that imposter syndrome may not be entirely curable, it is certainly treatable and controllable.

First and foremost, preparation plays a pivotal role in my approach. Thoroughly preparing for the task at hand allows me to build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills. Dedication to continuous learning is another key aspect of my strategy. I see myself as a perpetual student, always seeking to expand my understanding and apply fundamental principles. This dedication not only enhances my competence but also boosts my confidence.

Recognizing and embracing my unique talents and qualities is crucial in combating imposter syndrome. It’s important to acknowledge what sets me apart and contributes to my success in various endeavors. By doing so, I can approach tasks with a sense of authenticity, leveraging my individual strengths.

On an even deeper level, addressing underlying doubts, traumas, and weaknesses is an essential part of my journey and identifying and understanding these factors helps me navigate potential roadblocks more effectively. By confronting these challenges head-on, I can foster resilience and develop strategies to overcome them.

When imposter syndrome starts to creep in, threatening to overwhelm me, taking a deep breath and becoming fully present in the moment has proven to be a powerful antidote. I remind myself that perfection is not the goal; instead, the focus is on continuous progress and growth. This mindset shift allows me to appreciate the importance of the journey rather than fixating on an unattainable standard of perfection.

As an empathic individual, it’s easy to be swayed by the weight of the world and entertain nihilistic thoughts about the brevity of our existence. However, I counteract these sentiments by recognizing the significance of the present moment. Even though our time may be fleeting, our positive efforts toward growth and contributing to the greater good are undeniably valid. This perspective reinforces the importance of my endeavors and serves as a powerful motivator in overcoming imposter syndrome.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a vibrant 31-year-old all-around creative entrepreneur, my journey has been absolutely thrilling and equally challenging! I proudly wear multiple hats; I am a fine art consultant, fit and print model, performance- based fire dancer/ artist, and small business owner. I am originally from Maryland, but have lived in Miami and for a short while on cruise ships, sailing to over a dozen countries as an art gallery director. Currently, I work as a Senior Art Consultant and Platforms Manager at Source Art, a local Los Angeles based art consultancy. But perhaps the most exciting part of my growing career is founding ARTLOUDLA, an art advisory and information hub connecting artists with collectors, galleries, and art fairs.

What truly excites me is the tremendous growth potential that ARTLOUDLA is experiencing! The culmination of the past year’s efforts have brought serendipitous connections with inspiring leaders dedicated to supporting artists, fostering career sustainability, and promoting equity in marginalized communities through art sales and community outreach. Los Angeles, a city that has witnessed a remarkable surge in art in the past decade, is an ideal backdrop for building an independent art business. With big-name galleries and art fairs moving in, artists rightfully gaining recognition while experiencing a surge of new, emerging talents, major museums opening their doors, and important art collections taking root, there’s an undeniable energy propelling the artistic landscape forward in the City of Angels!

In the current landscape, there’s a growing desire to collect not just beautiful art but also the captivating stories behind it. People are seeking meaningful connections, rooted in age-old traditions and the enduring, intangible bonds that link us all. ARTLOUDLA, we recognize this shift, and it perfectly aligns with our motto: “Amplifying Creatives. Impacting Communities.” It’s more than just about the art; it’s about creating a collective force that resonates with the values of our audience and leaves a lasting imprint on the communities we touch.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities that stand out as significantly impactful are adaptability, curiosity, and being highly observant. These qualities have been instrumental in navigating the twists and turns of my path, and I believe they hold significant value for anyone, but particularly those early in their journey.

  1. Adaptability: Adaptability is not just a skill; it’s a mindset. In a world that’s constantly changing, the ability to adapt is crucial. It’s not just about reacting to changes but proactively anticipating them. This skill involves a balance between taking calculated risks and maintaining control, between being authentic and transformative. To develop adaptability, I recommend steppingout of your comfort zone regularly but safely, and learningto be comfortable with uncertainty.
  2. Curiosity: Curiosity fuels growth and learning, fostering a genuine interest and broadened perspectivein understanding the world around us. This trait allows me to approach tasks and problems from a fundamental level, ensuring a deeper interpretationand a more thorough solution. To foster curiosity, always ask questions. Be a lifelong learner who is not just satisfied with the sentiments of the status quo. Dive into topics that interest you and even those that don’t – you might find hidden passions. Whether you see it or not, any experience can be an opportunity to learn something new.
  3. High Observance: The adage “you were given two ears, two eyesand one mouth” underscores the importance of active listening and observation. Analyzing people and situations with a keen eye provides insights that lead to educated responses. Being observant means paying attention not just to what is said, but also to what is left unsaid; you must be actively listening, watching, and analyzing situations and people. This skill helps in making educated, rational decisions. To enhance your observance, practice active listening in your daily interactions. Pay attention to body language and non-verbal cues. Reflect on your observations to understand people and situations better.

Advice for Development:

– Understand Your Strengths and Weaknesses: Self-awareness is key. Know where your strengths shine and where your weaknesses lie. This understanding will guide you in focusing your efforts where they are most needed.

– Embrace Failure: Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a part of the learning process. Each setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. Keep trying, and with each attempt, you’ll get closer to finding your rhythm.

– Unlearn Bad Habits: Be conscious of habits that hold you back and actively work to replace them with positive ones. This could mean retraining your thought patterns, changing your approach to work, or improving how you interact with others.

– Be a Team Player and Leader: Cultivate habits that enhance your ability to work well in a team and lead when necessary. Leadership isn’t just about directing others; it’s also about being supportive and giving agency when due.

– Set Specific Goals: Have clear, specific goals. Break them down into smaller, achievable steps. This approach helps in making continuous progress towards your larger objectives.

Embrace each step of the journey with enthusiasm and an open mind! Keep moving forward, and you’ll find that your best qualities will not only propel you towards your goals but also enrich your life in countless ways!
