Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalie Magee . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Natalie , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Becoming a flight attendant and then a yoga instructor greatly helped improve my self-esteem. When I do both jobs I’m talking in front of people and they are looking to me for guidance and assurance. Even if I’m nervous I can’t let that show or people won’t trust my judgement. This bled over into social media and when I started posting on my instagram stories and TikTok I realized if I waited until I looked perfect I’d never post. I just started hitting record and putting my videos out there and realized that’s what people enjoyed. Do I get people that criticize me and my looks? Of course. But I can’t control what they say, only my reaction to their words. At the end of the day, I’m the one in the arena not them.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I started hosting yoga adventure retreats in 2014 as a way to combine my two passions of yoga and hiking. I have since evolved into curating International Retreats with the help of a company called Fit4Travel. This year I’m taking a group of 13 to South Africa which has been my dream since starting this business! I also have started making custom feather earrings (feathermemagee) on Etsy due to demand from women wanting something vibrant and Bohemian to wear. I strive to bring people from all walks of life together and prove you don’t have to look a certain way to enjoy the outdoors. I will be leading a yoga adventure retreat in Bali in June 2025, and I welcome all to join me. Many of my guests don’t have the time or energy to plan these trips for themselves so I hope to always provide a one-of-a-kind experience for them!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities I think are most important to develop are a thick skin, ability to adapt and adjust and empathy. I think all of these are so important in business and life, but the one that continues to stand out for me is to develop a thick skin and realize, “it’s not that deep.” You can’t take on everyone’s energy personally and if you focus on the negative then you will never be able to evolve in business or life.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
If I only had a decade left to live I would prioritize my family and friends more. I would say yes anytime my daughter asked me to play, I’d go on any vacation I could. I’d finish the 3 remaining 14ers I had and I would set aside any income I had for my family after I was gone. I would also write letters every day for my daughter to read after I was gone especially for important milestones like birthdays, anniversary or a wedding. I would want to make sure that after I was gone, my presence was still there. I would also go ahead and set up my funeral so that it was ready to go AND write my own eulogy for my best friend to read. I want people to remember me how I remember me, not just how they remember me. I also wouldn’t waste anymore time on worry or self-doubt and probably delete those apps on my phone that don’t serve me! Maybe I should start doing some of this now.
