Meet Natascha Dammann

We were lucky to catch up with Natascha Dammann recently and have shared our conversation below.

Natascha, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My mother . She has been a warrior , Defying the odds all her life . As an Iranian immigrant in Germany , studying , building a professional life , being a single Mom , fighting cancer ,… she taught me by example what resilience means .
She took on any challenge of life with no complaint to build a better future for me .

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My journey at Language Door started in 2009 when I took a part time position as a German teacher. Later that year I joined the administrative team. Growing into more fields of responsibility over the years , it was an easy decision to take over the business in 2015 after the previous owner wished to retire.

Language Door is a private language institute with physical locations in Irvine and San Diego ,and online services for the Los Angeles area. Language services are offered in over 35 languages and vary from teaching children and adults in small group classes or private settings at our locations and online. We also provide classes to Corporate and Government clients and partner with many Charter Schools. Translation and Interpreting services are offered as well. Our dedicated teams and teachers help students every day with their caring and professional attitude.

My biggest joy always has been the wonderful people that I met over the years and the relationships built .

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Vision , Dedication and Focus

If there is no vision , there is no journey .
For me it is important to constantly visualize the end goal ,It motivates me to keep going.
Too many times you face doubts , hesitations and shortcomings. Nobody is perfect and that specifically goes for business owners.
I might not be the right person to give advice , but I am reminding myself everyday : It is ok to ask for help.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I talk to my niece . No kidding , every time I feel overwhelmed and helpless , I pick up the phone and thanks to facetime and this 5 year old bundle of joy and love the world seems to be ok again.

One of the biggest challenges is to find a balance between professional and personal life.
I am not sure if there are strategies for it ,but everybody needs to sit down with themselves to reflect and define their priorities in life and how to maintain a healthy balance .
