We recently connected with Nathanael Linquist and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathanael, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I think the thing that allows me to continue going and working and believing in what I do without fail is having Faith. Faith is the only thing that lets me realize that this life is far more out of my control than I think, and that gives me great comfort. It takes the pressure off of me, and having faith lets me see that this life is not about me at all. It doesn’t matter if I am the most succesful or wealthiest or most famous business man, athlete or trainer. These are the things that the world has to offer, but they don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. What matters is having joy and love in the things that I do. This offers sustainability and longesvity in my work as I no longer have to have the pressure to be succesful in other peoples eyes. Success to me is bringing glory to God, and as long as I do that, everything falls into balance. This makes me resilient, I can go forever at this pace, because I love what I do. If you don’t have joy in your work, it doesnt matter how resilient you are, your going to burn out or get angry.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the CEO of Elysian Fitness and MUNGU Academy. Elysian Fitness is a online and in person health brand dedicated to people who are looking to make massive change in their life, and get past the stereotypes of working out and eating healthy, and learning what it actually means to have love for yourself and have life long change. I love working with people who come to me with a whole list of problems that they are facing and seeing their faces and attitudes about their life change when they hit their goal and see what they are capable of with following some simple rules and tools. Its not complicated, and I think some fitness trainers try to make it sound complex so that you need a trainer. My goal for all my clients is to show them what they need to know and do to make change and love their bodies and mind, and then send them on their way so they can do the same for others.
MUNGU Academy is a 501(c)3 non profit soccer academy in Uganda Africa that is built to give young talented soccer players a change to take soccer to the next level within a university or professional realm. I grew up living and playing soccer daily in Uganda and was able to use that skill to go to college and play with some professional teams. My dream is to give these kids that same opportunity that I got so that they can change their lives, and their communitie’s lives.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. have faith in whatever you do. Its not gonna come easy, but it will come if you stick with it. 2. Have a great group of people around you who push you and motivate you. Get rid of toxic relationships.
3. Have fun. If you don’t enjoy what you do, why are you doing it? To pay bills? Take a risk, see what happens.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Having a relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important and valuable role in my developement as a person and business owner. I am weak on my own, but with God I am strong. The bible offers so much wisdom and guidance for anyone regardless of your faith or religion. Its so easy to get lost in the chaos and noise in the world, and the bible offers instruction on how to get through all that to stay focused on what matters.
“Don’t be anxious about your life, what you will eat or drink. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. WHich of you by being anxious can add a single day to your life? Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither toil or strife, but are always taken care of by God.”
Luke 14
