We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nebiy Tesfaldet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Nebiy with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my parents. My Parents are first generation immigrants who worked really hard to make a living here in the U.S. and to provide for me and my siblings. As a child, id always look up to them for their sacrifice, time and effort to do what was needed to support themselves and those that love and care for. The way i work to drive my passion into doing the things i love and want to nurture in the future is a result of their self-less acts for us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello Everyone, My name is Nebiy Tesfaldet! I work in a medical warehouse, I also help manage my dad’s properties but, My main passion is Dancing. I have been a artist within the Twin cities for about 5-6 years now. I like to move and get down but to be more specific about my dance styles, Im strong in Popping and east african movement. What got me into dancing was my family at home. My parents come from the country of Eritrea and just like alot of Africa, we express alot through our dance. So my mom and dad would constantly play Eritrean Music around me and my siblings as kids, we even went to Eritrean parties where my dad taught me how to do our cultural dance. I Always tell them that they are the reason that i fell in love with dance weather they want to accept or not. I’m also a instructor at Hothouse in north Minneapolis as well as im in a dance crew know as Squad 7. I recently just got done doing a performance for TedX which was super dope.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three things that i was told that im going to share with you guys is that, 1. Remember that you’re always a student to the game. this meaning that you are always going to be learning something no matter how much you know something, something is always gonna come up and remind you that there is still more to know. Number 2, Remember to stay humble. its good to remember that someone else out there who is trying to achieve the same goal as you could also get the same kind of love too especially, when you were one his foot. Last but not Least, Number 3, Move with positivity and your best foot forward. You dont ever know what kind of mark you’ll leave on the world so why not let it be a positive mark you know?
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always down to collaborate with other artists! I think that’s actually super awesome and I love creating in general. I’m down to work with all forms of art and how we can try and make people open their minds to different things. i love it when i see how collaborating on things make people question things even more. If you’re down to network and connect my Facebook is Nebiy Esayas Tesfaldet, My Instagram is @Nebula1796 and other then those 2 im a pretty approachable person whos again down to Collab and use art to change the world!
