We recently connected with Neveah Valdizan and have shared our conversation below.
Neveah , thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
I developed my ability to take risks through determination and resourcefulness. At 13 years old, I aspired to create music, but I lacked traditional tools. With just a smartphone, I used apps like GarageBand and my own creativity to make my dream a reality. I became a self-taught musician and released my first album as a freshman, setting a world record as the youngest musician to create an entire album on a smartphone.
My innovation and adaptability allowed me to break boundaries and gain recognition from my high school, prominent figures like Senator Mitt Romney, and media outlets. My story shows that determination and technology can pave the way for anyone, regardless of age or background, to pursue their dreams in the world of music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a young musician who’s breaking boundaries and making waves in the music industry. I’m a self-taught artist who started creating music on my smartphone at the age of 13, even releasing my first album, “Sticky Notes,” in the same year. I’m a pioneer in using technology to create music, and my second album, “HYTECHPOP,” was also entirely produced on my smartphone. My remarkable achievements have gained recognition from various sources, including my high school, politicians like Senator Mitt Romney, and tech giants like Smule. I’m not only a talented musician but also an inspiring educator, offering classes to teach others how to create music using their phones. I believe that anyone can tell their stories through music and that technology offers opportunities for everyone to pursue their dreams. My dedication and innovative approach make me a true prodigy in the music industry, revolutionizing the way music is created and shared.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In my journey, I found three qualities and skills to be incredibly impactful. First, resourcefulness was key. I used my smartphone and various apps to create music, even when I didn’t have access to formal training or expensive equipment. This taught me that limitations can be turned into strengths with a creative approach. Second, being self-taught was a significant aspect of my journey. I learned to sing and compose music on my own by using online resources like YouTube and apps such as Smule. It’s a testament to the power of self-driven learning. Lastly, my tech-savviness played a vital role. I harnessed the potential of my smartphone for music production, even releasing full albums entirely through this device. For those starting their journey, I’d advise embracing available technology, staying self-motivated, and sharing your unique story and experiences with the world. Just as I showed, innovation can emerge from unexpected places, and you can make a substantial impact, even as a newcomer in your field.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I’m currently facing the challenge of needing funding to support my mission. My goal is to unite people through my music and inspire others, especially young people, to create music using the resources they have. To continue creating and spreading my music, I need financial support to invest in better equipment, produce high-quality content, and reach a wider audience. With funding, I can take my music to the next level and make a positive impact in the world.
