Meet Nick White

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nick White a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Nick, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Looking back at my work that I’ve done in the past to the present day really keeps me driven. My creativity has tremendously grown and my portfolio says it all. Not only that, but seeing other creatives put art into the world through all these different social media platforms, truly inspires me in so many ways. Artists inspire other artists. These two things are for sure what keeps that creative spark in me alive.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Every time I am asked the question. “What kind of photography do you do?”, my answer changes. Since I’ve entered this world of photography, I’ve ventured into many different types of photo taking. This is something that I always imagined myself doing because it really helps broaden your creative eye and mind. I’ve found myself becoming more excited every time I go out for a shoot. Whether it’s taking portraits, video, or city photos, I enjoy every moment.

My business and brand has continuously been growing since the beginning and I am very thrilled to see how far things go. Within the past year I have upgraded lots of gear/equipment which allows me to capture much better quality than before!

The biggest accomplishment that has occurred recently was the launching of my website! NickWhiteCaptures.com, now has an amazing way to view all of my best work. I’ve put lots of time into creating a website to help express my art to an even bigger audience. I am beyond excited about this and greatly look forward to improving my gallery for the people to see and enjoy!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Prevail after failure. When I started taking photos there were plenty of times where I doubted myself and my work. I would go into a photoshoot being nervous on what the outcome would be. Of course, there will be times where we don’t do as great as we expected which has happened to me quite a few times. It can be degrading to say the least but if you want to achieve you have to believe. Reminding myself to keep moving forward and learn from my mistakes because it will only teach me how to become better for my next opportunity.

With learning from my mistakes overtime, I became confident in the areas where I lacked most. This is a very vital quality to have because it really can go hand in hand with everything you do. For me I began to showcase my work proudly which attracted more people to me and what I do. It helped my work speak for itself.

Having this skill can also lead into being good at communicating as it did with me. I am much better at conversating with clients and other artists than I was before. When having a business, confidence and communication play a big role and can truly elevate your work and relations with others. Try to apply these three things into your journey as they are very prominent and helpful!

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Setting goals for my business and myself has for sure had the most improvement. I’ve made this system where I write a task/goal on a sticky note and slap it on my desk but cant remove it until I have completed it. It really helps because it’s something that I see everyday and serves as a reminder and once I take it off, I think to myself “that’s one step closer to achieving my ultimate goal.” I learned that it’s very helpful to take that long term goal and break into smaller/more achievable ones. Since becoming more goal driven, I have seen improvements with not only my business but myself. It’s very important to strive for your business desires to make it successful, but keep in mind that your own personal development is more important to help you feel happiness!
