Meet Nicole Tadgell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Tadgell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Nicole, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Compassion begins in the mirror. By surrounding myself with encouraging, loving people. I created a book of “kudos” , a collection of awards, good reviews and even nice things people have said. When I’m feeling down or when thoughts of inadequacy come up, I can look at the book for encouragement. Having my art on the walls in my home helps as well. They look back at me and say, “yes, you ARE good enough!”

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I love to create narrative artwork that shares experiences and opens new worlds. Most of my work is for children. I am fascinated by expressions, capturing moments, reflecting and enhancing the narrative story. I work in watercolor, and am continually fascinated by the process. It brings great joy. Most recently, I completed illustrations for We Dream A World, written by Yolanda Renee King, the only grandchild of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Our book launched January 2024 and is available at bookstores and online.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1-Patience 2-Persistance
3- Having an open mind/being mentally flexible.

Some of this comes from time, wisdom, experience. I would advise developing the ability to “step back” periodically and with a sense of detachment, assess and re-assess as needed.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Breathe. Stay calm. Go for a walk in nature, meditate, clean. I would advise that you get to know yourself even more deeply. This allows you to take care of needs as they arise, before they can cause worse trouble.
