Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikola Wisniewska. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nikola, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
When I became a nurse, that was something I struggled with, feeling like an imposter in my field. Even though I had an education, certifications and passed my state exams and had experience, sometimes I felt incompetent. Once I became a coach, I realized I had to process those feelings I was feeling and challenge my self-limiting beliefs. I started to journal and wrote everything down to see what comes up for me. I also wrote down my strengths and successes and things I could improve in. Instead of tearing myself down, I praised myself for those things and gave it a positive meaning. Some questions that I included were; 1. Which of the successes am I not taking ownership of?
2. Which of my beliefs are holding me back?
3. Which of my strengths am I overlooking?
4. How is this imposter syndrome mentality serving me? What am I gaining from it? What am I losing from it?
5. How am I dealing with these feelings? Am I talking to someone about it or am I suppressing my feelings and not processing them the way I should be?
With journaling and giving myself positive affirmations, those negative feelings I had, slowly faded away. And when I catch myself being hard on myself, I have to say 2 positive things about me for 1 negative thing I just said. The positives outweigh the negatives. I am still a human, and I still make mistakes but that’s what helps me grow and makes me more resilient.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am currently working on my coaching business. I got into coaching to learn and provide a more holistic approach for my patients. After receiving my nurse coaching certifications, I realized I wanted to work for myself and become a coach that works with women to improve their physical and mental health, who feel stuck where they are and that need support putting themselves first and not always last. I blend my healthcare experience with transformative coaching to help clients take control of their health. When I work with my clients I guide them, facilitate their growth, and help them reach their goals towards better health and wellbeing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I always had a dream of working for myself and having my own business. Being determined helped that dream become a reality. I wake up every day and think about any short-term and long-term goals I want to reach, and everyday put time into that so they can become a reality. For those that are starting out on your journey, never forget the reason you embarked on this journey in the first place. This will help you stay determined when you have those rocky days and want to quit.
Time management has been very important. With so many things that need to be done daily and short-term goals that need to be reached, I must make sure I have enough time for each of those things. Time blocking not only provides me with the time but limits the distractions that may occur otherwise.
Learning how to communicate effectively is very important and that helped me as a coach who is new to owning a business for the first time. Being able to communicate with all kinds of people and understand each person and how they work has helped me build solid relationships with them that can help me in the future.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As a health and wellness nurse coach, I take a holistic approach with my clients. I would love to collaborate with all kinds of professionals including chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, functional doctors, reiki masters, yoga instructors, herbalists, quantum nutrition testing practitioners, nutritionists, mental health experts, other holistic nurses, etc. I am open to exploring all kinds of partners to collaborate with.
