We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nitara Mohabir a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Nitara with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I definitely get my work ethic from my mother. I am first generation and both of my parents were born in Guyana, so them coming over to the states at such a young age and providing such a beautiful life for my brother and I, is truly admirable. My mother was the sole bread winner of the household and even went on to owning her own mortgage company, and for that she showed me how unstoppable I can be. I started working at a young age of 13 being a dance teachers assistant, and from there I never stopped finding the next step up. I went on to eventually becoming a dancer teacher, to a Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader, and eventually ending up at a VIP manager to a nightclub called The Reserve. My mom always showed me and encouraged me to try every avenue, and to never shy away from things that may discourage you.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
One thing I know for sure is that I love dealing with people, getting to know people on different walks of life, being able to hear about different experiences, and bringing joy to people. In all my work I have done that was one of the biggest aspects; wether it was teaching, dancing on stage or the field, or even bringing in VIP clients; dealing with people and being able to give them the best and happiest experience possible is always fulfilling to me. Currently working as a VIP manager for one of the biggest clubs it really does satisfy you to see your clients coming in and celebrating occasions with their friends. It’s a place that everyone can unwind, let go, and just enjoy the music and ambience with their friends. I highly recommend coming and checking out The Reserve nightclub, we are constantly throwing events. We give all of our clients the best experience possible, wether it’s just coming in for some fun or wanting to throw a private event at the venue, we cater to all. Plus our beautiful venue is in the vault of a bank, who doesn’t want to party in a bank? lol.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Perseverance, there is no timing for success. No matter how difficult things may become, stay consistent, and always see things through, it will always be worth it in the end.
2. Letting go: as humans we just naturally want to plan ahead, and when things don’t go the way we plan we get frustrated. There is really no such thing as failure. I truly believe in trying every and any avenue, and there is no limit to what you can do. Sometimes the universe will gift you things when you learn to let go, enjoy, and be grateful for where you currently are.
3. Always be kind: you never know who may open a door for you and excel you into the next chapter of your life, if you give kindness out you will always receive kindness back. You never know who may be having a hard day or what people are dealing with, but you being kind may make someones day that much better. You will never regret being a kind person. Kindness is contagious!
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me is supporting me no matter what. Life can be so scary and challenging at times and just to know they are a rock solid support system for me brings ease to me. They always pushed me to go ahead and chase my dreams because if I don’t who will? I remember moving to Los Angeles and being from New Jersey, I was terrified! I was more scared of coming across the country alone, and knowing to see my family it would be a 5-hour plus flight; I couldn’t just drive to my parents when things started getting scary. But I came out here with no job, a little savings, and figured it out all by myself. If it wasn’t the motivation of my parents continuously telling me I could do this, and reminding me I always find a way,I couldn’t have done it. They always saw my potential even when I didn’t.
