We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Noah Frimer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Noah below.
Noah, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Confidence and self-esteem was something I always struggled with growing up. I was always the shy, nerdy kid in school who sat alone at lunch, didn’t have a lot of friends, and always felt out of place. Throughout my time in school, I also would get picked on for these things which made it even harder to build my confidence and feel more comfortable with who I am. This continued happening for me throughout high school and until I got to college. Everything started to change and improve for me when I finally realized who I was and what I want to do in life. When I found my place in acting and producing films, I started to feel more confident and secure in myself. I became more positive and happy with my life now that I knew my purpose. As I continued into college and began to really take my career and goal seriously in film, I found so much joy in school and life, I made so many more friends and found people who cared about me and wanted to talk to me. Finding my purpose in film was one of the best things thats happened to me because I can now go through life with confidence and greater self-esteem knowing that I get to spend everyday doing what I love and not worrying about anyone else’s opinions regarding that.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Noah Frimer, I am a 20 year old senior at ASU majoring in Film and Media Production with a concentration in Producing. I have been producing and acting in films for about six years now. In this time I have worked on dozens of short films, two reality shows, a documentary, three feature films and many other forms of media. Things really changed for me at the beginning of this year, 2023. Until then, while I knew I loved film, I felt like my goals and life was on hold while trying to finish school so that I could get out into the world to pursue this passion. But, in January 2023, I found myself presented with an incredible opportunity to work as a producer on a reality show called “WHO IS: EYEAMKI” which will be releasing in 2024. While I was incredibly grateful and appreciative of this opportunity, I did not feel worthy or like I deserved it. I was 19, a kid, a student, I had not done anything yet to prove myself as a producer in this extremely competitive industry. So I knew I had to make the most of this opportunity, I put my all into it, on top of doing an internship with the Phoenix Film Festival, 18 credits in school so that I could graduate early, and a part time job. Overworking myself is a problem I have always had, but this was a new level. But I did it, we finished production on the show and it was such a great opportunity. I continued making short films in school and eventually started my own production company, Udderly Fabulous Films, to continue making my own passion projects. At the same time, I continued working as a producer for the production company that I made the reality show with, working on numerous other projects and forms of media such as commercials, documentary, testimonials and so much more. Also during the summer, I got hired at Arizona PBS as a TV Production Trainee which has taught me a lot about a whole new aspect of this industry and has been an incredible experience so far. Then I got to work on another reality show that will also be releasing in 2024 which was an incredible opportunity and just recently, in November 2023, I became the Vice President of Distribution for the same production company that I did the reality shows with, Manifest Media Broker Group. Now, my passion is stronger than ever, I know exactly what I want to do with my life and what needs to be done to achieve these goals. I continue to work everyday towards these goals, working on new projects, learning more, and just being a positive environment for those around me as most of this industry is about collaboration and working together. Now, I have one semester left in college, graduating college in only 3 years, and then I plan to move out to Los Angeles. Hollywood. The center of the film industry and continue to pursue my dream at the next level!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back at my life, at where I started to where I am now, even though I still have a long way to go, the three biggest and most important qualities I have found are to be hard working, to create a positive environment/ spread happiness to those around you, and to always be learning. For those embarking on their own journeys, these qualities can serve as pillars for personal and professional development.
Starting with hard work, embrace the value of hard work and dedication. Success does not come overnight, and putting in consistent effort is essential. Be willing to go the extra mile, take on challenges, and persist in the face of obstacles. The film industry, like any other field, rewards those who are committed to honing their craft and putting in the necessary work to excel.
Second, be able to foster a positive environment in your personal and professional life. Positivity not only enhances your own well-being but also influences those around you. In the film industry, collaboration and teamwork are key. The film industry is one of the most competitive industries in the entire world, there are so many people who share this same passion, but that does not mean they are competition. Instead of viewing everyone else as competition, view them as friends and collaborators. This entire industry is built around collaboration. A film could not happen without so many different people with different skills being involved. Being someone who uplifts and spreads happiness can create a supportive network. People in the film industry often appreciate a positive attitude, as it contributes to a more enjoyable and productive working environment.
Third, recognize that there is always more to learn and that everyone has something valuable to teach. Everyone in the film industry was in your place at one point in their life so they want to help and support the next generation. So don’t be afraid to ask questions, to ask for advice, to make mistakes, it is all a part of the process of increasing your knowledge, skills and connections in this industry. Stay curious and open-minded. Seek out opportunities for learning and growth, whether through formal education, mentorship, or self-directed study. The film industry is dynamic and constantly evolving, so a commitment to continuous learning is crucial. Reach out to those who have more experience; many professionals are eager to share their knowledge and support the next generation.
Remember that everyone in the film industry started at the beginning of their career. Leverage the collective wisdom of those who have come before you. Don’t hesitate to seek advice and guidance from experienced professionals who can offer insights based on their own journeys. Building meaningful connections and being receptive to learning from others can significantly accelerate your progress in the industry.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The primary challenge I’m currently navigating in the film industry revolves around the persistent perception of being viewed as a “kid,” which poses a significant barrier to being taken seriously by industry professionals. To overcome this obstacle, I’m strategically implementing various measures. Actively engaged in building a portfolio of high-quality work, I aim to demonstrate my skills and expertise through consistent delivery of professional contributions to film projects, challenging preconceived notions about age. Participating in industry events, workshops, and networking opportunities is a key component of my approach, enabling me to connect with seasoned professionals, showcase my commitment and passion for the industry, and potentially open doors to new opportunities. Continuous education and skill enhancement are pivotal in staying relevant; by mastering new technologies and staying abreast of the latest industry trends, I not only enhance my competence but also position myself as a dedicated and serious professional, countering stereotypes associated with age. Seeking mentorship from established professionals in the film industry provides invaluable guidance, insights into navigating challenges related to age bias, and constructive feedback, contributing to my growth and credibility. Additionally, developing and exuding confidence in pitching ideas is essential; by presenting my creative concepts and contributions assertively, I aim to demonstrate that age is not a limitation to innovative thinking, thereby gaining the trust and respect of industry peers. Through this multifaceted strategy, I aspire to reshape perceptions and garner the recognition I deserve in the dynamic and competitive film industry.
