We were lucky to catch up with Noah Mortel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Noah , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I am my happiest when I am creating. This can come in different mediums. My passion and calling is writing and directing films and TV. When I am not doing that, I really enjoy getting the camera out and filming slow-motion videos and editing them to music. I love pulling emotion through music. So far on the side, I have created model videos, maternity videos, and pre-engagement videos all edited to music that matches the theme of the content. I also enjoy creating content based on what I may encounter in life whether it’s family videos or encountering a real goat at the mall and interviewing the guy holding the goat. I enjoy making people laugh, smile, or reflect in a positive way. I used to hesitate posting things thinking that no one cares but that has all changed because it has been a beautiful thing to get a private message from someone saying that what I posted helped them. Even if it’s in a small way, that brings me joy. Even if I am going through life’s challenges, what makes me happy is seeing others happy, despite what I may be going through.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
God willing, 2023 is the year that the seeds that have been planted with regards to writing and directing will begin to come into fruition. I am excited to be writing two feature film scripts that I have had the ideas for a while now. One is a body switch film and the other is a time travel film. These are stories that will help people and yet entertain them at the same time. This is the year that I want to go into writing and directing full time. There are a lot of things I want to do while I am here alive and legacy is very important to me because we don’t know our tomorrow, only God knows. The films and fully working in the film industry is just the catalyst to a lot of other goals I have. Some goals include funding entrepreneurs who I see have talent and potential. I would also like to have a clothing and cologne brand. Furthermore, I have philanthropic goals I want to reach. I want to be able to be in a position of influence and success to help people anonymously. I also look forward to talking in front of an audience and inspiring them to go for their dreams and to not give up. I want to be remembered long after I am gone as someone who did a lot of good for a lot of people. That’s what is important to me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three things that are most impactful to me in my journey is first my faith in God and my foundation and continual growth as a Christian. Second, would be the sacrifice and support from my parents and family. The third thing would be knowing God’s purpose in my life and putting the work ethic into fulfilling that God-given purpose. For someone who is early in their journey I would say to discover your God-given purpose in this life. It will be revealed to you through pure joy you have for something or it can be revealed by life circumstance. Once you discover your God-given purpose go for it even if you might be fearful, that’s how you grow and learn. You can read all the books you want on learning to ride a bike, but you will never learn to ride a bike unless you try. Even if you fall and get bruised up along the way, get back up on that bike and keep going until you can do it easily. That’s how it is with life. Stop talking about doing something, like Nike says, just do it.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Bible has played the most important role in my development in my life. Wisdom from God is the most valuable commodity when it comes to decision making in my life journey. I really enjoy reading Proverbs which is full of practical wisdom that is relevant today. I get down sometimes and what is always helpful is reading Psalms and then when I need a boost of faith I read the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Sometimes it seems like nothing works whether in career, relationships, etc. When that happens, I turn to God for direction and will also listen to a sermon from Dr. Charles Stanley or Dr. Tony Evans.
