Meet NoChillSaint

We were lucky to catch up with NoChillSaint recently and have shared our conversation below.

NoChillSaint, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Resilience means different things to different people, but my definition of resilience is the ability to continue to try new things no matter if the outcome is positive or negative. It was instilled in me by my Mom because she never allowed my sister & I to quit anything once we began. I wasn’t always this resilient. It is a skill that I have improved upon and I’m slowly refining every day. My resilience comes from my unwavering ability to find something else I need to improve upon. I describe myself as an ambitious person with an uncanny ability to make the things I see in my head appear out in the real world. I will admit that everything I imagine might not go the way I picture it, but sometimes the outcome is better. I’ve never been afraid to try something new. I’m not afraid of “looking foolish” or “embarrassing” myself because, at the end of the day, I know what I need to do in order to ultimately get what I want. I don’t mind healing from the scars I may gain from potential failures because scars are just experience. Tenacious is a better word to describe the attribute I possess. There is always something you can improve upon. The key is to be happy where you are while also improving; that way you aren’t ungrateful for all the things that you have accomplished thus far.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I dabble in a bit of everything and I am multifaceted. I currently: create social media content, and I make music. I love discovering new passions and I love improving upon the skills that I already have because I don’t believe in perfection. All of my ventures tie into one another. I like to think of myself as an author because I create characters and scenarios, except my medium is through music. Then I bring those characters to life with content creation. I always make sure to have my music in the background of my videos. It allows me to get my face to the masses at the same time as my music. I love being able to create new things and putting myself out there.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The 3 qualities that I possess that I recommend others enhance or develop are communication, tenacity, and adaptability. These are the qualities I believe that keep me going and have got me through some very hard times. Here is why you need each:

  1. Communication: You have to be able to know how to talk to people. Knowing your personnel and how to communicate with different archetypes of people will be beneficial in the future. If you can communicate in a way that is most effective to others while still getting the desired outcome that you need you not only get what you need, but the person you communicated with feels respected and appreciated.
  2. Tenacity. Overcome your fear of rejection. If you are afraid of rejection then you will never get what you want. It is ok for someone to tell you “no” about something. Depending on the situation and after you assess it, you either A. continue OR B. move on. There are a few variations in between, but ultimately know when to hold them and when to fold them after a rejection.
  3. Adaptability. It is never too late to start over and start something new. Some people might tell you to grow up (and I agree that there are aspects in which people need to act like adults such as handling your business first and foremost), but having dreams and pursuing those dreams is something you should never be made to feel bad about. As long as you are taking care of what you need to be taking care of then I do see the problem in trying. You can’t make anything happen if you don’t exert effort.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
The answer is (along with every answer ever): It depends. It truly depends on what character archetype you are and who you want to be. If you want to be a master in something then focus on that one craft and enhance it until it becomes something fantastic. Being a master or an expert on a certain topic is great because you’re specialized in that area. On the other hand, you won’t have much or any knowledge in other areas and it can make you one-dimensional. If you’re well-rounded and work on your weaknesses, you’ll be good at a lot of things. You’ll be very knowledgeable about a lot of topics and you can fit into multiple different spaces because you are good at many things. The downside to being good at a lot of things is you aren’t great at anything and your expertise usually is lacking in areas. I am personally well-rounded. I am good at a lot of things which is why I dabble in multiple different ventures that may appear to have nothing to do with each other. There is nothing (at this moment) that I can say that I am an expert at.
