We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nolan Harmon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nolan below.
Nolan, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I’ve always believed in myself. I’ve been a creative since forever, and if you are in any of those industries with doubt in your mind, you can’t make it. There is so much competition that if you don’t buy into yourself, why would anyone else? My parents always believed in me and supported me as well, so it’s a combination of my DNA as well as my support system. I’ve got great people around me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Right now, I’m doing a lot of everything in my wheelhouse. I just starred in a holiday commercial last month, did a two-day modeling gig last weekend and have been doing sideline reporting and commentary for football and basketball the last few months as well. I went to college for sports media, so that’s my biggest pursuit, but I’m also constantly doing acting, modeling and some designing as well. Pretty much whatever opportunities peak my interest that are presented to me, I take on with a full head of steam and try to make my mark on.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) My confidence. Without believing in myself or being shy, I would have been eaten alive in any of those pursuits of mine.
2) My creativity. I’m a visual learner and am able to physically imagine things in order to game-plan how I’ll be successful in something or how I’m going to make something.
3) My OCD. As much as I used to hate this trait, it’s been a superpower to my success. I’m so organized and on top of things, it helps me not to be too overwhelmed with busy days or goals.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
This is so hard to answer because as much as I’ve had more success than ever in 2023, I’ve also never faced as many obstacles and challenges. I’ve lost friends, struggled at times with decision-making, not known if my route was the “right” one and ultimately come out of it all a stronger, more well-rounded and understanding person. Things change. People change. Things and people also both come and go at a moments notice. I’ve learned the only thing you can do is your absolute best and pray it works out, but if it doesn’t, understand it was all part of God’s plan. His plan for me will always be greater than anything I can imagine. When you make a mistake, learn from it, take away the lesson and pray on it. Things always work out the way they’re supposed to.
