Meet Nyshaun Harvey

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nyshaun Harvey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Nyshaun , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Every barrier is an opportunity for me to push harder. As a child, my parents made it very clear that I was not made to fit in, but stand out. Even as a little girl, I knew I was so different from other kids my age. I used to try to fit in and conform when I got to high school. I quickly realzied that wasn’t the lifestyle for me. As I got older, I knew going the way the crowd went was never a good way to go. I have very few friends in my circle because of this. Success doesn’t equate to a big flock of people or a big status, success is peace, people who truly love and care for you, and walking in your purpose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a 25 year old serial entrepreneur in STL. I love Jesus, little people, and coffee! I have been running a childcare facility since I was 19 years old and shortly after opening my childcare, I authored two books filled with affirmations. In the last 3 years I have opened up a coffee shop in Florissant called Latte Lounge. I have always had a love for coffee and wanted to give back to my community. After, one year of business at Latte Lounge, I was blessed enough to become co-owner of a second location in Downtown, called Latte Longe + HG Eatery. This location is 9x bigger than our first location and also has brunch! We are so excited for all that has happened in the last 2.5 years. I am also very excited to announce that we will be opening up a Latte Lounge in Ferguson by the end of the year!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Determination, discipline, and organization have gotten me where I am – without these three qualities I would not have made it. Also, having a circle of people who have the same mission as you, will hold you accountable, and push you to help develop or improve in these qualities.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was train me up. They have instilled so much inside of me and have played such a huge part in who I am today. The daily affirmations and self-worth talks as child most definitely stuck. They continually support and push me into every dream I have. I couldn’t have asked for better parents!
