Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Paige Ellsworth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Paige, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I come from a line of female entrepreneurs. My grandma started a company selling books that taught people how to type on the computer. My mom started her own company selling materials for speech-language pathologists to use with children. I worked for both businesses growing up and got to see the ins and outs of the small business world. I also saw how many hours a week goes into being a business owner. It’s not 9-5, it’s 24/7. There are always things that need to be done. I ended up going to nursing school and getting my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from ASU. After graduation, I got a job working for a small business owner that had no prior business experience in a very niche market. I had seen the successful side of business, and in that job, I was able to see the unsuccessful side. All this experience was helpful in starting my own business. I think knowing no one else is going to be there to pick up my slack, whether it was in group projects at school, my personal life, or in business aided me in developing a strong work ethic.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I began my nursing journey when I graduated high school with my CNA license. I worked as a nursing assistant while pursuing my Bachelor’s degree, and then worked as a nurse for a few years before going for my Master’s. I took multiple trainings and certifications to become certified in aesthetic injections. I am also looking forward to getting laser certified as well. The aesthetic industry is always growing and coming out with new research, so it is very important to stay up-to-date on the latest findings. This is one of my favorite things about being a nurse injector, the mix of science and art. Anatomy is super important for injections in addition to having an artistic eye to be able to balance features and draw attention to certain areas of the face. Furthermore, I am excited to announce that I will be graduating from nurse practitioner school at the end of this year. After my graduation, we will have an expanded menu of services to include more wellness options for clients at Precision Skin Studio.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were investing in quality training, having a lot of grit, and figuring out everything I didn’t know. Training in aesthetics is expensive, but necessary to gain experience in new injectables. A lot of grit is needed when starting a business because everything that could go wrong, does. Things take a lot longer than you plan for and there are so many small details to keep track of. Lastly, figuring out what you don’t know is very important. There is no standardized schooling for someone to open a medical spa. You have to find trainings yourself, set up accounts yourself, find marketing agencies yourself, and do all the things by yourself. No one gets a Bachelor’s or a Master’s in opening any health-related business. A lot of things are trial and error and learning experiences. For those looking to enter the industry, I would advise them to find the smallest class sizes for trainings and the best business mentor that can in order to start off strong.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for other business owners to collaborate with! I love bouncing ideas off other medical spa owners, and I enjoy meeting other entrepreneurs. In 2024, I am hoping to collaborate with other small business owners every month in either hosting events, giveaways, or other ways to encourage people to shop local. I have met so many photographers, estheticians, hair stylists, and others in the beauty industry that are just super inspiring people. They make it super easy to refer clients to when they are in search of their services. If any small businesses are looking to collaborate, always feel free to reach out via Instagram @PrecisionSkin_Studio! I’m currently looking for a nail technician, permanent jewelry artist, fine line tattoo artist, and more!
