Meet Pam Scamardo

We recently connected with Pam Scamardo and have shared our conversation below.

Pam , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is driven by the support of my team. They say it takes a village, and it sure does. I believe every entrepreneur needs to surround themselves with a tribe of people who are equally as committed to excellence. Being perfect is an illusion. Being excellent is something each of us can strive for each and every day. My team inspires me and that inspiration drives my resilience. I also believe in “off time.” Being on 24/7 used to be a badge of honor but our world has evolved to a place that recognizes how impactful “powering” down for periods of time can be. Just like our smart devices, we all benefit from time to recharge.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I took an unconventional jump into real estate. I graduated school with a Masters in Aerospace Engineering, and worked as an aeronautical engineer at Lockheed Martin, Boeing and United Technologies for over 10 years. As an engineer, I was making good money and steadily climbing the corporate ladder. However, despite the comfortable compensation and technically challenging work, in the back of my mind I desired to have more control over my future, both from a financial point of view and also from an influence perspective. I had seen peers spend 30+ years saving a nest egg for retirement, and hold off on retirement plans with the trepidation that they didn’t quite have enough to leave. In my mind, there had to be a better way. So I started researching ways to generate passive income. Eventually I came across “Commercial Real Estate for Dummies” and the topic of investing in apartment complexes resonated with me. When I found out that one of the authors of this book (also a former engineer) offered mentoring/coaching services, I was thrilled and jumped on the opportunity to learn from an expert. The rest you can say is history! I closed on my first deal in 2011, retired from engineering in 2013 to launch TPK Properties, and started The C.R.E.A.T.E. Wealth Network in 2020. C.R.E.A.T.E. stands for Commercial Real Estate Association for Training and Education. Since closing my first deal in 2011, I have been involved with acquiring, disposing of and forming syndications – helping many men and women work towards job optional status through generating passive income. My passion is in helping others and commercial real estate has allowed me to do just that!

As a privately held multi-family investment company that acquires, manages and renovates medium to large sized apartment complexes, TPK Properties has successfully syndicated over 100 properties for investors across the country.

My latest venture is the debut of my first book entitled, “Create Wealth: How You Can Ditch the 9-5 with Multi-Family Investing.” It is now available on Amazon! This book is a resource for individuals to learn the no-nonsense approach to multi-family investing.
I’m also proudly serving as Cal State Fullerton’s Center for Real Estate Director. I am inspired to help the next generation learn how to break into the commercial real estate/real estate investing markets!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’ve always been an overachiever, so I am listing my top four! Patience, persistence, tenacity, and being willing to fail forward have served me well. It’s important to understand that you don’t always have to know it all to take that step forward. Progress happens when you take educated actions and then course correct as you gain knowledge and experience. Analysis paralysis is a real thing. Channeling bravery and courage can help when you are in a place of overthinking the next steps. Plus having a team of empowered individuals to collaborate with can serve as a private board of advisors – full of priceless guidance.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Jay Shetty’s book, “How to think like a monk,” has been enlightening in recent years. When we are first born the very first thing we do is breathe. Yet, modern life has a way of getting us so far away from our breath that when we need in most – aka during decision making time – we often struggle to find it. Breathwork has a way of calming the mind and nervous system so that you can think more clearly and make decisions more effectively. I say that before every major decision a person should take a minimum of three deep, full breaths and see what answers appear in those calm moments. Sometimes I need to go for 10!
