We recently connected with Peter Daily and have shared our conversation below.
Peter, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I have a passion for music and find joy creating art. Music’s been such a driving force in my life since I was a little child. There’s something special and mysterious about expressing my thoughts and feelings through songwriting and hearing that it connects with others. Music can truly bring people together and we’ve been living during a time where people are divided about so many things. My hope and purpose is that the music I make helps bring people together.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
There are a bunch of incredible artists and bands out there and everyone bring something special to the table. I think for me, I’ve always been drawn to melody and trying to tell a good story through my songs. The ability to connect with people on an emotional level is what sets music apart and I always try to let that come through in the music I make. I’m currently working on new music with ST5A here in Los Angeles and I’m eager to put out some new music and start playing some shows again.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Creativity, perseverance, and collaboration. Creativity has been a huge force in my journey whether its crafting a melody, writing lyrics or experimenting with new sounds. Perseverance is key in the music industry. As an artist you’re going to face rejection and setbacks but you have to keep going. Collaboration has played a massive role in my journey. Whether it be making music/touring with Pigeon John or collaborating with the great guitarist/artist Brian Ray who worked with Etta James early on and now famously with Paul McCartney, the exchange of ideas and the magic that happens when people come together is truly special. The best way to improve is to have the ability to listen, learn, and create with others.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I try to take a break and go someplace quiet and cancel out all the noise and reflect a bit, calm down, and catch my breath. Life isn’t easy and being a creative person isn’t either. if you’re someone like me, you’ve got a bunch of things running around in your head most of the time, so, do your best to get out of the way and just relax for a few.
