Meet Plug Chapman

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Plug Chapman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Plug , appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
I think it comes from watching others mess up their lives with habits and vices. ANYTHING can be enjoyed just in moderation. I’ve always had the ability to walk away from thing but that didn’t come easy. One of the most valuable lessons a man must learn is when to walk away. Mine came in the form of people, not love and relationships…people. I had to realize it was ok to distance myself from them no matter who they were. I’d say family is the hardest to detach from. I’ve had to take breaks even from my own child for my mental health. Some conversations are hard to have especially with the ones closest to you. If you can detach from those you love, you will develop disciple to apply in needed areas in your life. But be advised discipline can be perceived from the outside as stubbornness lol. My mother used to blow money I mean spend it soon as it touch her hand. Me I am more disciplined and not impulsive as her and a lot of times she would call me cheap.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a comedian, I’m pretty sure you can guess what comes with that profession. I don’t want to take the time to go thru the highs and lows of this now 13 year career. Comedy has taking me to some amazing places and hopefully there is a lot more in store. I recently started a podcast called “The Trophy Case” which was to give some of my favorite athletes flowers. I was once inspiring to make it to the NBA way before I ever told jokes and was actually a pretty good player but didn’t make it to the next level. Over the years I wondered what happened to some of the guys I competed with and against. Thanks to social media I’ve been able to reach some of em and bring them in. My dad was a NFL ref and his interview went viral which was not only exciting but started bringing eyes to the podcast. I am still doping stand up and plan to merge my audiences soon. If you read this and know of any athletes with an amazing story we would like to meet them.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’d say stay neutral. Of course you are going to run across people in your fields that you don’t particularly care for. Be careful who you talk to about how you feel. You don’t want to burn a bridge that you will need in the future and the scary part is you don’t know who will go on to become what. The guy I am a jerk too in 2023 could end up booking Fallon in 2024 and guess who’s prolly not getting booked for being a jerk in the past. If you said me…advance to the next page

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Sent me to school across town with white kids and kids of different backgrounds. Makes me comfortable around anyone and I understand there are GOOD and BAD people in every race. I always say I can hang at the Country Club during the day and in the worst hood at night but I’ll be comfortable in both.
