Meet Poorva Wachh

We were lucky to catch up with Poorva Wachh recently and have shared our conversation below.

Poorva, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity thriving by maintaining a perpetual hunger for learning new skills. My passion as an actor has driven me to explore various facets of the craft, and I’ve also ventured into the world of stunt acting. I’ve undergone training in martial arts, including Wing Chun, Tai Chi, sword fighting, and proficiency in various weapons like double sticks and nunchucks. My enthusiasm for action sequences has grown steadily, and my goal is to evolve into a versatile action actor.

I draw inspiration from legendary actors like Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington, among many others. Their dedication to their craft has shown me the value of continuous learning and its application in my acting and work. Creativity, for me, is the heart and soul of this industry. As an actor, I believe it’s essential to embrace new skills and incorporate them into my performances.

My journey has also seen me transition from a former professional tennis player, a passion for photography, and even proficiency in playing the piano. My curiosity extends to technology as well. All of these experiences contribute to enhancing my craft, pushing the boundaries in my performances, and challenging not only my fellow actors but, most importantly, myself. Every day is an opportunity to wake up as an improved version of myself, ready to take on new challenges and explore new horizons.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hello, I’m Poorva Wachh, and I’m a dedicated actor with an impressive portfolio that includes numerous films, commercials, and music videos. My journey in the world of acting was paved with determination and a deep passion for the craft. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in acting, a pivotal achievement in my career.

Prior to my acting career, I was a professional tennis player, but a significant injury at the age of 20 forced me to change direction. This shift led me to discover my love for acting, which I’ve wholeheartedly pursued ever since.

At present, I’m involved in several exciting projects, and I’m eager to share a few of them with you. One project that particularly excites me is the upcoming feature film “The Big Rant 2.” After winning two Best Actor awards for the first installment, “The Big Rant,” I can’t wait to reprise my role and see how this character evolves, both as an actor and for my future in the industry.

“The Big Rant 2” follows the success of the original, released in 2021, and while we’ve completed pre-production, a minor delay due to a strike has pushed our shooting schedule. Nevertheless, I anticipate this project to be a significant milestone, as the first film was well-received on Amazon Prime, even with limited marketing.

In addition to “The Big Rant 2,” I recently had the privilege of working on the popular show “The Bold and the Beautiful” as a cast member, an experience I found truly captivating.

My upcoming projects include a feature film exploring the intersection of Native American Indian and South Asian Indian cultures and their spiritual worlds. Additionally, I’m thrilled to be part of a comedy and mockumentary TV show, “The Steve Gunn Show,” where I portray the role of the manager. These projects represent an exciting chapter in my career, and I’m eagerly looking forward to future shoots.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Persistently and diligently pursue your dreams, and never take anything for granted. Embrace the lessons that come with failure and always focus on the brighter side of life, being grateful for what you have.

In my own journey, I was fortunate to have the right opportunities come my way after college. It was a combination of hard work and being in the right place at the right time that allowed everything to fall into place in my career.

So, keep working hard, and remember that you never know when a stroke of luck or a miracle might come your way. Continuously audition, invest yourself fully in your craft, and take your work seriously. This, I believe, is the best advice I can offer. Success is a journey, and every effort counts.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The primary challenge I’m currently facing is the ongoing saga strike, which has significantly disrupted our shooting schedule. We’ve had to postpone locations and reschedule with the actors who were already booked. This unforeseen obstacle requires us to work even harder and hold detailed meetings with our producers and executive producers, especially because our movie “The Big Rant 2” involves shooting in various locations across different states.

Once we successfully navigate the strike, I’m looking forward to getting back on set. “The Big Rant 2” is an exciting project, continuing the time-traveling mystery theme from the first film. Without giving away too much, the first movie left audiences with a captivating cliffhanger ending. I’m genuinely eager to see how the audience will receive the sequel and whether we can satisfy their expectations while staying true to the director’s vision. It’s an exciting challenge and opportunity, and I can’t wait to see the audience’s reactions.

But this year has been an absolute standout for me. I’ve had the privilege of working on some significant commercial projects, and one that truly shines is my role in a Toyota Prius commercial. Working on set with incredible people was a fantastic experience, and the compensation was quite generous.

Moreover, I’m thrilled to have become the brand ambassador for Dairy Fresh, a delightful ice cream brand. This role has brought me immense joy and fulfillment. Another highlight was my involvement in a commercial for eco-friendly palm leaf disposable plates by Eco Aura. What’s remarkable about these plates is that they are made entirely from fallen palm leaves, and they are 100% biodegradable and compostable. They offer a sustainable alternative to plastic or paper plates, and the fact that they return to the soil as compost is fantastic for the environment. Not to mention, these plates are incredibly sturdy, which I adore.
