We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Boltz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
In the realm of marketing and creative roles, scientific research has unveiled a fascinating connection between personality types and creativity. My own journey, as revealed by the DISC personality test, places me firmly within the ID category, signifying a potent blend of Influence and Dominance. My disposition is marked by an unyielding fearlessness when it comes to taking risks and an insatiable eagerness to chart uncharted territories, even if it means redefining my path.
To ensure the flame of creativity burns brightly, I find it crucial to foster it through unwavering exploration and an unrelenting pursuit of novel experiences and challenges. Here’s a roadmap for fellow creatives:
Embrace Variety: Being open to new opportunities and fearless about changing course can be an invaluable asset. Do not shy away from exploring diverse creative avenues and industries. The broader your experiences, the deeper your well of inspiration becomes.
Networking and Collaboration: Forge connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds and industries to glean fresh perspectives and ideas. Collaborative efforts can infuse your projects with newfound vigor and creativity.
Continuous Learning: Nurture your innate curiosity and invest in personal growth. Engage in workshops, seminars, and courses related to your passions. Learning from experts and staying abreast of current trends can ignite innovative sparks.
Take Risks: Fearlessly experiment with unconventional ideas and approaches. Remember, failure often paves the way to groundbreaking innovations, and a comfortable relationship with risk can lead to remarkable breakthroughs.
Maintain a Creative Routine: Dedicate specific time slots to brainstorming, sketching, or experimenting with new concepts. Consistency can serve as the gateway to your creative flow.
Seek Inspiration Everywhere: Inspiration has an uncanny ability to strike from the most unexpected quarters. Keep your mind receptive and open to the world around you. Travel, art, music, literature, and even everyday conversations can be wellsprings of creative insight.
Embrace Challenges: Rather than shying away from challenges and obstacles, embrace them as opportunities to flex your creative muscles and discover unique solutions.
Manage Stress: Be mindful that excessive stress can stifle creativity. Practice stress management techniques like mindfulness, meditation, or physical exercise to keep your mind clear and ready to receive new ideas.
Share and Teach: Sharing your knowledge and mentoring others can serve as a catalyst for your own creativity. Explaining your ideas to others compels you to articulate your thoughts, often leading to deeper insights and fresh perspectives.
In this ever-evolving creative journey, remember to continually embrace fresh challenges and horizons, and never allow complacency to take root. The wellspring of creativity flows boundlessly for those who dare to explore and innovate.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My academic journey commenced at a remarkably young age, stepping into college at just 14 years old. By the time I turned 17, I had achieved the distinction of becoming the youngest individual ever hired by the State of Florida, taking on the role of an instructor for the blind and visually impaired. This early start set the stage for a lifelong dedication to education and business.
I successfully earned my Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in business, and my passion for teaching naturally segued into the realm of business education. My experience as a former educator instilled in me a deep appreciation for the significance of strategy, meticulous planning, and the precise execution of plans. These principles are the bedrock of my approach to assisting clients.
My fervor lies in helping business proprietors achieve their financial aspirations through the dynamic realm of digital marketing. I extend an array of services to my clients, including website design, SEO optimization, social media marketing, online advertising, photography, videography, blog writing, email marketing, and more.
At Boltz Media, we’ve assembled a dedicated team of experts who are singularly committed to delivering a transformative impact in the sphere of digital marketing. We strive to provide you with a striking difference in digital marketing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
A key driver of my success is my steadfast dedication to prioritizing the needs and interests of my clients above my own. My true passion lies in guiding individuals on their journey of growth, and I take immense pride in being a part of that transformative process. Additionally, I firmly uphold the belief that effective communication skills, coupled with sharp critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, form the bedrock of success in any endeavor. Here are some valuable insights I’ve gleaned on how to cultivate and enhance these essential skills:
1. Giver’s Gain: Approach potential clients with the mindset of, “How can I contribute to their success?” This may involve offering referrals or providing free advice to support their goals, with your own needs taking a back seat. Embrace the principle of giving more than expected, without expecting reciprocity. The act of giving is contagious, and conscious giving can be an endless cycle of mutual benefit.
2. Effective Communication Skills: Embrace active listening as a core practice. Devote your full attention when others are speaking, refraining from interrupting. Employ clarifying questions to ensure you comprehend their perspective. This approach not only fosters empathy but also enhances the quality of your communication.
3. Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Expand your horizons by immersing yourself in books and articles across diverse subjects. Exposure to various viewpoints and ideas serves as a catalyst for refining your critical thinking abilities. Additionally, engage in collaborative projects and brainstorming sessions. The diversity of perspectives brought by different individuals often leads to innovative and effective problem-solving solutions.
Remember, the journey of developing these skills is ongoing and evolves over time. Extend patience to yourself and acknowledge that progress requires continuous effort and practice. Set clear, achievable goals for improvement, seize opportunities to apply these skills in practical scenarios, and don’t hesitate to seek guidance and feedback from mentors and peers. Your unwavering commitment to self-improvement will serve as a guiding beacon throughout your journey of growth and success.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
One of the most significant enhancements I made was expanding my team. I maintain a stringent selection process, ensuring that those I bring on board are true experts in their respective fields and share a deep passion for serving our clients. As my business continued to grow, it became imperative to assemble a dedicated team and provide them with comprehensive training. I am delighted to say that my team is exceptional, fully prepared to tackle even the most substantial challenges with confidence and competence.
