Meet Rachel Sellick

We recently connected with Rachel Sellick and have shared our conversation below.

Rachel, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Good Question! Growing up, I don’t think I really struggled with any mental health issues, but as I’m sure many of us can relate to, COVID happened, life happened, and things got more difficult. It took me a long time to realise that I was struggling with my mental health, and to actually accept that it was ok. At the beginning of 2021, I went through a really tough time, and it was only when everything around me started to crumble, that I knew I had to do something about it… I decided to enrol in some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and started to focus on myself. It took me time to realise that it’s not selfish to put your self first. In some ways, it can be selfless in that you can end up bettering the lives of others around you by being the best version of you. I also learnt that it’s absolutely ok to take time off. By taking some time to rest and recoup after a difficult/busy few months, I allowed myself to get into a good headspace for the upcoming few months.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Since its origin as a boutique management agency, Scarlet River PR has worked with award-winning country music artists in the UK and United States. Its name is widely known throughout the industry thanks to the diligence, persistence and hard work of its founder, Rachel Sellick.

Since 2020, Rachel and her business have been nominated multiple times for Fair Play Country’s music management company of the year, as well as receiving nominations from Indie Star Radio, Woods Music Norway and the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA).

Scarlet River PR works with its clients on project-specific PR, brand campaigning, and UK tour bookings and promotion. We work with the client to make sure that the PR campaign is relevant and unique to the clients’ needs.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Be patient! Patience is my word for the year. Not everything comes as and when you want it to, but with persistence and patience, it will.

Be realistic. It’s ok to not know everything, and use this to your advantage. Work with colleagues and other companies that are better than you in specific areas to give your clients the best of everything!

Be confident. Being confident in your ability is not a bad thing. You own a business because you are good at what you do!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
I work with a plethora of incredible clients, but in order to get the most out of a campaign, it is important that the client has a vision on where they and their music are going. It is important that the client knows what they want, and what they want out of a campaign. At Scarlet River, we always make sure to discuss with the client how they view success, and what they want to get out of working with a PR company, so that we can provide the best services possible. It is also very useful if the client already has some music released, so that we can build upon those.
