We were lucky to catch up with Raffael Arlief recently and have shared our conversation below.
Raffael, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Remembering how far I’ve come, how many things I’ve left behind to get here, and always believing that all dreams can become true, a song from Paramore can pretty much describe it “for pessimist i’m pretty optimistic”. Yes! Optimism is the only thing I know to get what I want. Even tho is tough, I always believe that everything shall pass and I can get it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a visual artist, I paint and pour what I think and feel into a blank canvas. The interesting thing is, at first I did this painting activity to be able to take advantage of the strange feelings and thoughts that I felt, I could put it all out in a painting form. Dude! I don’t want to be defeated by the many monsters that are inside me hahaha Until finally today becoming a painter is my career. It’s such a privilege because I can still be myself to be able to stay alive and live. In the painting, I can also hide many things behind the cute things I’ve made in my work hahaha recently, I made a lot of paintings for upcoming exhibitions that will be held in Indonesia and several countries.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Ambition, Consistency, Dreams At first, everything I experienced and I did happened organically and unplanned. Just flowing as life takes me to the estuary where I want to be or if I don’t want to be, I try to adapt to the situation. But I began to realize that what I have today is the result of consistency to keep the fire of ambition to achieve what I dreamed of, and thankfully I can gain what I dreamed before one by one over time
For those of you who are just getting the ball rolling like me, my message is to never stop dreaming and keep that ambition alive. Because with dreams, we have achievable goals, so we will be consistent in what we are doing. Don’t ever lose hope.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
What my parents did was to give me the freedom to be what I wanted to be. It is a privilege for me, because I am still given full support to get what I dream of. Shout out to my mother for letting me become the cool one hahaha and like Kurt Cobain said “Thank you for the tragedy, I need it for my Art!”
