Meet Ramia Griffin

We recently connected with Ramia Griffin and have shared our conversation below.

Ramia, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My high school coach, he taught me “The pain of regret, is much greater than the pain of discipline” that mantra alone is engrained in my brain. I will always be the hardest working one in the room because of it. This can be applied to so many things outside of basketball just life in general, stay disciplined, do what you need to do, don’t regret not doing anything, and you will be successful.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a college basketball coach! And I love it more than anything. Being part of team, making a career out of the sport I love and grew up playing my whole life, the thing that kept me on track, I can never let it go. The most exciting thing about being a college basketball coach is that my job doesn’t feel like a job, I don’t wake up, put on slacks, and dread my day. I wake up, put on sweats, talk hoops, travel, and work with amazing coaches and players. My job is a game, and that’s what’s so fun about it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Work ethic, faith, and staying on track. I have never taken time off, I kept grinding. The best advice I can give to anybody is that you have to be willing to sacrifice, you have to be willing to stay on track, and you can’t give up when life gets tough, or you never deserved to have it to begin with.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
They showed me what it means to be good parents. Every endeavor I pursued they had full faith in me. They sacrificed everything for me so I can have an amazing life and childhood. they gave it all to me so I can succeed. I want to do the same for my kids, I want them to know that no matter what they choose to pursue, I not only will have their back, but I will be there every step of the way wherever and whenever they need me
