Meet Randy Allison

We recently connected with Randy Allison and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Randy, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Finding my purpose was highly influenced by my faith and my family’s history of volunteerism and charity. Ever since I can remember, my dad and mom were involved in giving back to the community. I may have not fully appreciated it at the time, but this spirit of “otherness” definitely inspired and influenced my own family to find meaning and purpose in helping others. For every shirt sold we want people to find satisfaction in knowing that their choosing to support our brand gives back directly to causes we all care about: Mental Health, Food Insecurity and Human Trafficking. Helping others find their purpose in helping others is essential to our brand’s identity. We is greater than me. This is the heart of what we call Purpose Apparel.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Believing that what you are doing makes a difference, despite what the evidence or odds may tell you. Success cannot be measured by how many shirts (or whatever your product or service is) you sell or even if you ever make a profit. ie. Just look at a majority of “multi-billion dollar” tech companies that never turn a profit. A vast majority of businesses fail before they begin because they lack the clarity of vision and belief in their “why”. The world can likely get by without another t-shirt company. You have to ask the question honestly (not just enthusiastically or because it is your passion): How does my idea or product make things better for people and planet practically. If you can measure a practical improvement in even one life, you may have a winner. The rest is hard work, timing and lots of prayer! And even then, “success” is by no means guaranteed. As a small business entrepreneur, define how you will measure success everyday, even the smallest of things (didn’t cry myself to sleep!) and don’t put off doing those myriad of things that only will get done if you do them, today! Procrastination is a disease that is the slow but inevitable killer of every business failure. Get up, count your blessings and live out your own purpose everyday. This is the recipe for true success not just in business, but life.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
Living and building off strength and findings ways to infuse, exercise and continue investing in this personal asset is the best use of time and attention in my opinion. But first, you have to find out what your strength is. You can ask those closest to you what they think your strengths are. You can take online tests and read books too, but those whom know you best is the most authentic way of discovery your God given talent and how it actually plays out in the world around you. Also, check your gut. When you are using your strength there is an energizing and deeper soul watering that happens. Be sure to take a mental bookmark of these moments throughout the day where you notice that little lift in your spirit. I believe we were all created to live out our unique gifts/strengths as part of our life purpose. Life is too short to try and measure up and image build based what others think. Want to discover a more positive and purposeful day? Love the skin you are in instead of coveting false friendships and the lure of “likes” on social media. Get off line for a minute. Your true friends know where to reach you and breaking news…. your “followers” will be fine without you.
