We were lucky to catch up with Ranjin Mathew recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ranjin, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
For me, optimism is like a blend of good vibes from the wins I’ve had, the people who lift me up, and the lessons I’ve learned from tough times. It’s about believing that challenges are temporary and that I can find ways to make things better. So, it’s like having a positive playlist of experiences, thoughts, and attitudes that keep me hopeful no matter what comes my way.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I focus on Restaurant Tenant Representation in Retail Commercial Real Estate with a primary speciality in Leasing with a Sales component as well. An added bonus to my clients is that I get to provide additional marketing for them via my IG @BrisketandBaking foodie page to give them more exposure and help them grow further.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that significantly impacted my journey are adaptability, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts. These attributes allowed me to navigate various challenges, stay relevant in a changing landscape, and connect with diverse audiences.
Remember, no need to rush. Progress is the name of the game. Set doable goals, and if you ever need guidance, chat with mentors or those who’ve been around the block. These skills will build up over time, making your journey all the more exciting!
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
One of my favorite books is “Eat That Frog!” by Brian Tracy. It is a practical guide to time management and productivity. The book is centered around the metaphor of “eating a frog,” which represents tackling the most challenging and significant task of the day—usually the one you’re most likely to procrastinate on.
A couple of the most impactful nuggets of wisdom talked about in this book are Prioritization and the 80/20 Rule. Prioritization with the importance of identifying and prioritizing tasks based on it’s impact on goals. Starting each day by determining your most important tasks (frogs) and focusing on completing those first. The 80/20 Rule, also known as the Pareto Principle, introduces the idea that roughly 20% of your efforts yield 80% of your results. The book has helped me identify the tasks that contribute the most to my goals and focusing on them.
