We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Raushanah Sheffield. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Raushanah below.

Raushanah, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Honestly I’m still working on my confidence and self esteem. Running your own business will have you thinking you on top of the world one day and the next day you questioning every move you ever made. A lot of my clients has helped me to overcome my confidence. I remember at one point they believed in me more than I believed in myself. Which is really inspiring for me. Once I set back and realized what I am capable of and started seeing results in my clients hair. I started realizing that I can do this, which lead to me believing more in myself and my work, and then my confidence started going through the roof. I started doing mass research on trying to figure out how to treat different hair conditions. When I was in New Orleans (bronner bros) I met a wonderful lady who has her own institute(hair loss business boot camp). After having a brief conversation with her she helped me to realize I’m the one holding myself back. Which lead me to take her 45 min class that turned into 2 hours, while in New Orleans then a couple months later I paid outta pocket for her Hair Boot Camp. Oh this has been the best thing I have paid for in a long time. To learn the correct terminology, relearn half the things we were taught in our community isn’t necessarily true, learn new things and other ways to correct the wrongs has been amazing. Now yes it has been a journey unlearning to relearn. I’m not mad at it due to the fact I have taking a different approach into this beauty business.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

What do I do? Well consider me a Trichologist (hair loss specialist). My goal is to help you figure out why your hair is thinning, help grow your alopecia hair back, build your confidence, and be your listening ear as we travel through a tough journey. Many people suffer from thinning and no one wants to talk about why you’re thinning, how can you help the area from thinning, how many people are scared to even talk about the subject.
What I feel is the most exciting(don’t judge me) is watching your once thin spot become thick, seeing your alopecia area grow back as well as seeing the smiles on your face as you regain your confidence to reach for the skies and to see you be bold. Many people has sat in my chair and questioned my skills while others sat in my chair and seen results as little as 6 months.
My mission for everyone to know about me is I’m not here to judge. If you need a stylist to treat your natural hair, be your trichologist or just to have someone to be a listening ear, reach out. As we go through the this hair care journey skies the limit.
I told myself that I will start getting out there to put my brand out more which is Shana Sheff. I have products that i make and retail hair growth oils as well as body butters. Im in the process of getting my own shampoo and conditioner done. Expansion is in my future i most definitely will be claiming that and all the above. My goal is to have my products in the stores to help everyone who is in need.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Hmmm let’s see, this was a good one. I had to ask my clients this one. The 3 qualities that they all agreed on was honesty, dependable and compassion. After asking them mass questions about this question I now have a clearer understanding why they continue to come back. I love what I do, if there is a style or something I can’t do I most definitely let them know. If it’s something I want to try to say that I did it they let me. I’m forever grateful for that. Took me years to get where I’m at in this beauty industry and I’m ready to see what else is to come. The skills that’s needed to do what I have done isn’t simple. Took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to see the results I see. No matter what you do you have to be consistent, relentless, fearful and know that you will fail. Whatever you do please do not let failing throw you off your A game.
What was most impactful while I’m going through this journey is the fact I can have a do over. No matter how bad I think the hair style looks, or if I used the wrong product on my clients hair, they loved it. Or at least they told me they did and some I questioned (lol). As long as you give it your all and stay a student you will and can learn so much. This industry is changing everyday and staying up with the trends can help as well as hinder. At the end of the day is all about learning and providing the correct information for your clients so you can help them look and feel they best.
Man, if you are in the beginning of your journey embrace it, learn, never give up. Any day can be your day to shine and if you give up you will never know if that days was your day. There will be more downs then ups when you first starting out keep going. If you believe in God pray and have that mustard seed of faith. When you first start out with your dream you might have some people there cheering you on and you may have no one there cheering keep going. What I noticed is they will be all in when they see you winning and even then u keep going.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My biggest growth is learning to trust myself, paying for school to become a Trichologist (hair loss specialist), learning to have that mustard seed of faith. I wouldn’t be here typing this if it wasn’t for God. The biggest and hardest area of growth for me was taking that leap. Grabbing the ideas and turning it into reality. Not waiting for the right time because what life has shown me is there will never be a right time. What you can do is pay attention to timing. You will know if something is right for you and when to launch it.
The last couple years I would research and try to put two and two together for my clients. To get more in depth with what actually causes hair loss and to learn the correct terms for it has been great. To hear my clients tell me that they see growth in how I communicate with them and how I’m starting to put the terminology together so they can know I know what I’m talking about is just a blessing and dream come true. So to spend my hard earn cash was the best move.
I notice that we all would say oh I have that mustard seed of faith. I will jump start my business when the time is right, or oh I need to make sure I have money for so and so. I’m head to tell you. If that’s what you saying to yourself you will never get anything done. Having that mustard seed of faith means that you will trust the man up above to guide you and show you which way you need to go to be successful. Now let’s not get this twisted because it’s plenty of times i questioned my faith. Then I had to pull it together because I dnt have it all nor do I know it all. The only person who can move mountains is the man up above. Get out your head, take that step, jump out on faith and watch you float.
