Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raven Anan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Raven with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I’ve had 3 great examples of great work ethic. My mother has multiple sclerosis. Growing up seeing her face the challenges that come with the disease, was hard but as I look back on those situations, they now inspire me and push me to go forward. Working hard, fighting and staying positive. I did not see my mother as stressed, angry, or frustrated growing up. If she ever was I never saw it. I only saw her as working, striving, and pushing forward. Now as a mother myself, I try to do the same. Work hard no matter the circumstance to show my daughter it’s possible. My grandparents have been business owners my entire life. I don’t know all of the adversity that they have faced in their lifetime, but I do know their work ethic. They work together and they work hard. Always helping others, putting others 1st, and doing for whoever they can through their work and through their love. My work ethic comes from these wonderful examples that I had growing up. I was always told, ” If you don’t work you don’t eat.” My greatest current drive to work hard comes from my beautiful daughter who is 2 years old and watching everything I do. She is my why and I must show her that with God if you work hard you can accomplish ANYTHING you put your mind to.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a lover of all things beauty! I currently do hair, make-up, nails, and body waxing. I have a hard time choosing which service is my favorite. However my favorite part of all the services I provide, is YOU! Seeing your reaction, and ensuring you feel your best is the most exciting part of being a licensed cosmetologist. As I become more focused on my online presence my business is growing and my connection with my online family will grow as well! I’m looking forward to branching out and making more connections with other businesses, photographers, and like-minded individuals in the beauty industry. This past weekend I was able to participate in New York Fashion Week doing hair and it was AMAZING. I am hoping to take a deep dive into the fashion industry and do more hair for fashion shows.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
3 qualities that I think are most impactful would be – customer service, being true to YOU & the desire to learn. You can not have a business without customers, so ensuring that they are happy is going to keep you going. This is especially true for a service-based business like the beauty business. Being true to YOU means being yourself and not letting others impact that. In my field, there are thousands of hairstylists and there are clients that are for each hairstylist. everyone is not going to be your client, being you and not letting anything impact that means that the people that are supposed to reach your chair will. That is important in my eyes. The desire to learn and being open to learning something new keeps you going. The beauty industry is forever changing with new tricks, new tools, etc. I am always open to learning something new in my passion. To develop these skills you can take a class in customer service, you can make a list of qualities you posses that you don’t want to change and you can search for hands-on or virtual classes in your area on a new hairstyle that you’ve never done before.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for models to collaborate with! I also have in interest in working with other hairstylists/muas. I think that partnering or talking to other people who are doing the same thing as you is helpful. you can share struggles successes or tips and tricks. I am always open to sharing what I know or learning from others. I can be reached through social media @styledbyraven.
