We were lucky to catch up with Raven Finley-Flowers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Raven, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Before, I can answer this question, I’d like to say that someone’s purpose is forever changing. I make a habit out of asking others the question of what they think their purpose is. I figured if I ask others maybe I could figure mine out. The short and simple answer is always the same, they felt their purpose was to help people. The more detailed answer includes what brings them joy (even if it’s what they like now but no longer do later). Doing this helped draft my answer to what it is now.
I think my purpose at the ripe age of 26 is to speak life into others while doing Personal Training/ Volleyball coaching. I believe that God gives us glimpses of the impact we have on people. Once he does it’s up to us on how we want to use that power. Currently I do this through fitness, but I can’t tell you that my purpose will be the same thing 10 years from now. I know the seasons will keep changing, and my purpose will keep evolving with it as long as I am doing the right things for me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi, my name is Raven Finley Flowers owner of Confidently Fit LLC and Volleyball Sports Coach. Founded in November 2019 I’ve worked to build a brand, built to inspire and improve the fitness/athletic ability of the people that I’ve been gifted the opportunity to impact. As a business I plan to take my ability to create fitness programs that will help my clients physical and mental health to another level. This is done by creating a safe space for mental dumps, affirmations for a more positive mind shift all the way to knowing how to operate in a gym and knowing the proper form for specific movements. My goal is to learn as much as I can in my field then run a facility filled with people that want to improve in some type of way to teach it too.
As an individual sometimes I feel like what I do is a bit much some days especially with the workload that I have. But I understand that if I ask for a lot, a lot will be required from me. So having moments of the day that I connect with God and read my bible has carried me through. I work in a field that requires me to hold other people accountable, so the best thing I can do is be disciplined about what I’m asking others to become. Within this journey it causes for daily self-reflection, a test of my faith walks, and the removal of my ego every day. To give my best theirs a few things that I have to do. In which I am grateful for every opportunity to do so. I know this is what will make Confidently Fit LLC even bigger.
Currently I am taking on 5 clients looking to change their lives. You can follow me at Confidently_Fit, book me at www.confidentlyfitbyrae.com , or email me at [email protected] I look forward to the goals that we’ll achieve together.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My three qualities that I believe helped me get to this point are: 1. Doing it Regardless of the emotion associated with it. If it was good for me, it was going to get done. Not waiting until the last minute is a habit I’m trying to break, but at the end of the day if It’s something that I need to get done for the betterment of myself or my business, it will get done.
2. Changing my perspective. To change your perspective is to be open to other possibilities than what I think. I’m okay with being wrong.
3. Kindness. There have been so many opportunities that have come my way solely off the fact of how people experienced me at a point in their life and the things that they saw me do or continue to do as I’ve built my brand.
If I can tell anybody anything about the journey to the glory of what God has for you is no matter what it looks like, stop doubting yourself and keep doing your best to figure it out. How it turns out has everything to do with how you think. What you think is what paints your reality. Check your thinking first then continue to create plans and open yourself up to more knowledge. All the little things that you do, add up to one big thing.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
I have been blessed with the opportunity to encounter so many people that have added more and more to what I am capable of doing and knowing now. But if I had to choose specific individuals it would be my parents. When facing an obstacle in life that I’m not sure how to navigate I’m the first person to pick up the phone and ask my parents. Fortunately, they don’t just tell me what I should do, they ask questions and make suggestions, leading me to figuring it out myself. Growing up I was always taught that I will need to work hard for what I want and need. I implement this into how I currently operate now. It won’t always be easy for me, and I’ll face moments of fear, but I must stay true to making plans working towards whatever goal that was set. Lastly, surrounding myself around people where both parties are feeding into each other’s growth. This and constantly making a way to keep learning.
