We recently connected with Raven Parnell and have shared our conversation below.

Raven , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
In my multifaceted roles as a creative director, online boutique owner, and business owner, nurturing and sustaining creativity is fundamental. I’ve found several approaches that help keep the creative flame burning brightly.

Firstly, I prioritize constant inspiration. This involves staying attuned to industry trends, exploring various art forms, attending workshops, and engaging with diverse creative communities. By continuously seeking fresh perspectives and ideas, I infuse my work with innovation and originality.

Moreover, fostering an environment conducive to creativity is pivotal. Encouraging open communication and collaboration within teams allows for the cross-pollination of ideas. I value the input of each team member and believe that diverse viewpoints contribute significantly to innovative solutions and fresh concepts.

Additionally, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is indispensable. Creativity often flourishes in moments of relaxation and leisure. I make time for hobbies, travel, and other activities that rejuvenate my mind and spirit, ultimately enhancing my creative output.

Furthermore, embracing failure as a stepping stone to success is crucial. Experimentation and taking calculated risks are inherent to creativity. I encourage myself and my team to explore unconventional ideas, knowing that setbacks provide invaluable lessons that propel us forward.

Lastly, adaptability and a willingness to embrace change are essential. The creative landscape is dynamic, and being flexible in adapting to new technologies, market shifts, and consumer preferences is key to staying innovative and relevant.

Overall, I firmly believe that by fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, resilience, and a holistic approach to life, creativity can thrive across all aspects of my roles as a creative director, online boutique owner, and business owner.”

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
There are so many qualities that come to mind, the first quality that has helped me most on my journey is Creativity and Innovation. The ability to think creatively and innovate has been instrumental in shaping the direction of my boutique. Constantly challenging the status quo and seeking fresh, original ideas has allowed me to carve a unique niche in the industry. My advice for those starting their journey is to nurture creativity by exploring diverse art forms, cultures, and trends.

Secondly, is Adaptability and Resilience. When In the ever-evolving landscape of fashion and business, adaptability is key. Being open to change and resilient in the face of challenges has helped me navigate through various market shifts and unforeseen hurdles. To those starting out, I suggest fostering adaptability by being flexible, staying informed about industry trends, and remaining agile in response to shifts in consumer behavior and market demands.

Last but not least is Effective Communication and Networking: Building strong communication skills and a robust network has been invaluable. Whether it’s communicating a brand’s vision, negotiating partnerships, or connecting with customers, effective communication has been pivotal. For beginners, I recommend honing communication skills by actively listening, seeking mentorship, networking within the industry, and cultivating relationships that can offer guidance and support.
My advice to those early in their journey is to embrace a growth mindset. Continuously seek opportunities to learn, adapt, and refine these essential qualities and skills. Embrace failures as learning experiences and stay persistent in pursuing your goals. Finally, never underestimate the power of networking and building relationships; the connections you forge along the way can often be as impactful as the skills you develop.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Collaboration is a cornerstone of innovation and growth in the fashion industry, and I’m always open to partnering with like-minded individuals or brands that align with our vision at The Trap Shop.

I am seeking collaborations with designers, artists, and brands who share our passion for creativity, quality, and storytelling through fashion.
