Meet Raven Richards

We were lucky to catch up with Raven Richards recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Raven with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I like the act of working. I like being productive, especially creatively. I’m not usually comfortable for too long, so I like growing and challenging myself so I learned putting in the work is necessary for my goals to be achieved. I learned consistency and discretion when I would build things and learn while attending Spelman. That helped my work ethic increase a lot because focusing became easier. Excuses are boring to me so I usually find a way to still get things done no matter what. I naturally like the feeling of getting things done.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I sing, song write, and model and love it. It’s so fun and exciting. I love performing and expressing myself. I love connecting with people and building my own community. I love touring. I sing about an array of topics and love challenging myself to create new sounds and blends.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Consistency, singing practice, and my love for music. My advice is do what you want and love. So Be yourself, be authentic. Be honest and do good business.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
A previous modeling coach and colleague helped me face adversity and confusion a lot in the past but now I get support and love from my mom and aunts and a sister circle I attend for spiritual reasons. Venting to friends has helped me overcome challenges and my fans support has pushed me and motivated me as well.
