Meet Red Moth

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Red Moth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Red below.

Hi Red, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
Keep creating, above all. Your reason to create art ( whatever form that takes ), is unlikely to be based on anyone else’s opinion.
Good or bad.

Instead, look at each piece as a way to learn, improve and express yourself.

Keeping in mind things are not built overnight.
But slowly, brick by brick. One day those bricks will create a castle.

Don’t quit simply because someone else cannot see, or doesn’t like, your blueprint.

Should any negativity be particularly distressing, fold it into your work.
In the same manner you fold the positivity.

The most beautiful things can come from ugly places.
And now such naysaying is neutralized. Distressing no more.

Should that also fail, then it’s a sign for a little self- healing.
Personally, I enjoy green tea. Fixes everything.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello I’m Red Moth,

A Cloud 9 artist here on Earth through a work visa.
Meaning a visual artist/clothing designer/Moth Queen based in ATX.

I create paintings, haoris (Japanese kimono jackets), skateboard art, graphic novels, and other strange items.

My most common themes combine color, narrative and a love of nature.

Just like every person has a story, I add stories to each piece.
Often as a way to remind people not to give up. And still remember there’s beauty in the world.

And I hope that people who view my work, feel a catharsis.
And inspired to find their own spark, whatever that may be.

Recently made some freebies ( of the Red Moth character).
As a way to add color back into the world.

Feels like it gets darker every year. To combat that, I create art.

So please, help yourself. And color against the darkness.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Stubbornness. Hope. Love. ( The last two are just lively variations of the first lol)

Stubbornness will help you the endure the downs.
Hope will help you to believe in the ups.
And love will make you willingly accept both.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
You can box yourself in creatively. And get stuck in a rut.

So at this start of the year, made a goal to improve and enlarge my body of work.
Through practice, new mediums, themes don’t always work with, or even doing more training exercises.

While it feels like a mental marathon, I’m grateful that the hard work has helped to create better pieces.
It’s a never ending journey of learning, but it’s the best part.
