Meet Ricardo Arroyo

We were lucky to catch up with Ricardo Arroyo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricardo, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience runs through my family’s veins. Ever since I remember I saw my father working hard and overcoming adversities to make sure the family was ok. At thirteen years old my father quit school to help bring food home. He worked as a boot shiner and even at a circus handling the circus animals. Eventually, he joined the Navy where he became a Marine and military instructor for the new generations. Seeing all his hard work showed me that being resilient goes hand in hand with not giving up.

Back in 2004 when I first came to this country I found nothing but walls in front of me. The resilience that runs through my veins helped me overcome most of them successfully, I was defeated by life adversities sometimes but overall I overcame them. I experienced everything from discrimination to a language barrier to loneliness.

Now I am more settled with a family of my own and my own business, in which I still have to employ my resilience traits.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the Owner and operator of Blast Clean Pressure Washing. We are a pressure washing company that works in both sectors, residential and commercial.

We are based in Tampa Florida and we do: House washes, roof washes, fences, driveways, pavers sealing and more.
On the commercial side we have done: Malls, plaza parking lots, shopping plazas and other big structures. Our focus has been to grow as a brand. To grow as a professional company and treat every customer with respect.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resilience: Keep moving forward and don’t think about the obstacles. Think of how to overcome obstacles only when you meet an obstacle, not before.

Patience: Taking the time to do things calmly and in a smart way. I have seen other entrepreneurs fail because they try to rush things and push to get results fast.

Your circle: Surround yourself with people that will support you. Anyone that remotely thinks you are wasting your time should not be part of your journey.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Teaching me early on in life that I must work for everything I want. Certainly, things that one works hard for taste so much better.

One od the things my parents did for me and without me knowing was preparing me for the future was that they did not buy video game consoles for us. As a result, I was forced to be out playing sports because I was bored inside the house. This made me a great athlete in different sports during my school years.

Not having a game console or cable pushed me to explore new areas. I remember my parents bought me a brand new computer for school and because I was bored I decided to take it apart and see what was inside. Doing this helped me to learn how to take assemble and disassemble and computer, install new software and Operating systems. Additionally this all happened before Youtube tutorials so I had to learn by myself with the help of a few books.
