Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ricardo Bello. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ricardo, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by thinking that we always need to innovate. Sometimes we have an idea for work or life, but we always need to reinvent ourselves to move forward. This pandemic, for example, was an example of having to keep creativity alive to find an intelligent way to survive amid the chaos the world has experienced. We need to innovate and renew to always achieve new successes in our personal or professional lives.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a journalist and comedian and the record holder for caricatures delivered personally to celebrities around the world. I do comedy shows that mix stand-up comedy, characters and imitations. It’s a job that I really enjoy doing, bringing joy to people at shows.
I’ve always liked drawing too, since I was a child. When I was 16, I drew an artist I admire, the Brazilian comedian Tom Cavalcante, and I managed to give him, in person, the drawing I made. He seemed to like the work and from that day on I drew several other artists, such as Julio Iglesias, David Coverdale, Deep Purple, Steve Vai and many others. And I became a record holder recognized by Rankbrasil, the Brazilian record book.
I currently run the Revista de Cultura blog, where I share news and receive people from different parts of the world, every day. It’s gratifying!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I graduated in Journalism, went to college, studied a lot. That was important, having the technical knowledge. I also took courses in other areas in which I work, but I believe that persistence and perseverance were extremely important in this trajectory. For people who are just starting out in life or want to be journalists, like I am, or an artist or any other field, you need to have genius, perseverance, persistence. Don’t give up in the first unfavorable situation. You have to dream, but you also need attitude to make the dream happen.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents were very important in my education, learning, development as a person and even in my artistic life. My father encouraged me to draw and deliver the first drawing I made to comedian Tom Cavalcante. My mother encouraged me to take art courses and was always present at my comedy shows, even though she was shy. I remember once I told the audience that he was in the audience and asked people to applaud. She was shy about the tribute I paid…
Parents are important in shaping our lives and we always remember their teachings, even when we are older.
