Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robb and Melanie Wallace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Robb and Melanie, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Robb and Melanie Wallace, the resilient couple behind Junk King Atlanta South, have not only built a thriving business, but also embody the true spirit of resilience. Their ability to adapt and evolve has been crucial in surviving various obstacles they have encountered, marking a relentless pursuit of success and deep commitment to their community.
One such hurdle was the economic downturn that struck around a decade ago, impacting a profitable business they had built around the housing industry. Despite the sudden shift, they refused to be discouraged and instead embraced change, finding new ways to thrive. They also faced the daunting task of managing two restaurants in the Atlanta area during the COVID-19 pandemic, grappling with restrictions and the need to keep their employees employed. Through perseverance and resourcefulness, they managed to navigate these challenges and come out stronger.
Robb and Melanie’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, hard work, and mutual support. Their ability to adapt, their dedication to their employees and community, and their unwavering determination have shaped their success and allowed them to overcome the hurdles they faced. As they continue their entrepreneurial endeavors, they inspire others to embrace challenges, build meaningful connections, and make a positive impact on their community.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Robb and Melanie firmly believe in giving back to the community that has supported them throughout their journey. Whether it is actively supporting local schools, dedicating their time and resources to help homeless youth in Atlanta, or participating in cancer awareness events, they consistently demonstrate their commitment to making a positive impact. Joining the Junk King family has also allowed them to embrace sustainability by recycling and repurposing items they collect. For example, they collect bikes from jobs and donate them to Bearings Bikeworks, a local organization that empowers youth by providing them with skills necessary for adulthood and the workforce.
Their passion for community engagement has only grown since Junk King joined Neighborly, the world’s largest home services company. Collaborating with fellow business owners, Robb and Melanie continuously seek new and innovative ways to give back. Recently, they organized a memorable movie night for their local community, bringing people together and spreading joy at a time when people needed it most.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Learning how to support each other through the ups and downs of business 2. Hard work and determination to succeed have always been a driving factor in any of their business endeavors
3. Being married for a long time works to their advantage because they’ve learned how to provide a balance and support for one another where needed
In terms of advice, it’s important to work together to survive challenges. Also, as they’ve evolved with each business change, they’ve always been consistent in maintaining a strong core of employees which is important as well.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
