Meet Robert Wood

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robert Wood. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Robert, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I wish I knew. The “Ole’ Lady” my wife asks me “why must you always do things the hard way?” I always say “if it were easy everyone would do it.” And I really do not like being told what to do. I want to make my own way in life, that is why I left the Marine Corps. I want to build a business and a company that my family and others can be proud of and prosper. And all I can hope for is that we do some good in the world.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Well I am focused on trying to create and build my own businesses. The thought of being able to be more than a number is what propels me to grow my future. Yes, I could keep my 7-330 plumbing detailer job. But I do not want to retire being an employee. Also, I hope to bring some dreams alive and create for the people. I started as just a woodworking jockey, and even funnier my name is Wood. This is destiny!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Get your finances in order and established as early as you can. I wish I would have learned or knew how this world worked way early on. For skills I think I can say that I am slow, and have to be told a lot. But if I learn how to do something, with my abilities of intense focus no one can out concentrate then I can!

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
My current challenge is time. I have a full time job that makes it hard to make, and run a side business. I want to build my business, also play with my children, and have a date night with my wife. Balance is very difficult to achieve, but I will do this. LOL
