Meet Robrecht Berg

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robrecht Berg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Robrecht, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
For me, optimism seems to be built in. Not sure why, but I’ve always looked on the positive side of things. People tend to know me for my good natured attitude, regular smile, and positive outlook no matter what difficulties I may be facing.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My latest endeavors are with creating short films. From concept to completion including filming, editing, special effects, and publication, doing it all with my wife as my primary muse and actress. Started this, I feel, as an extension of my creativity with photography. In October of 2023, began putting out my shorts to film festivals. Already, my films have received 29 awards including 12 awards from IMDb accredited film festivals!

I seem to have maybe too many hobbies. My creativity needs constant outlets! Short films being the latest. Since retirement from the military, I’ve delved into being an artist with digital watercolor painting, doing photography, and other media of artistic creation earning a bit of supplemental income here and there.

It is always exciting to see others enjoying what I create!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Dedication to what you want to accomplish is very important. Many give up too quickly when frustrated. Along with that dedication it is important to be willing to take risks. Yes, risks are scary, but the greatest things you accomplish in life tend to all be based on taking a risk. Involved with both dedication and risk taking combined, is the ability to persevere in the face of adversity.

Throughout life, I’ve always wanted to improve and always challenged myself. Several times during my 25 year military career, I volunteered for difficult positions as part of combat deployments. I believe, these challenges continually develop and improve you as a person.

Another challenge I took on was competing for a year long position working at The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. I won the competition and during that year at the Applied Physics Lab continually volunteered to work on multiple projects. Twelve projects that year in total. One of the most significant projects was NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto. That was achieving one of my life goals to either be an Astronaut or work on a NASA deep space project.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book ‘Choosing Civility, The Twenty-five Rules of Considerate Conduct’ by P.M. Forni, is what I consider one of the most valuable books for todays time. It may not have played a great part in my development, but it captures much of what I think should be a way of life.

There seems to have been a loss of civility and good conduct, possibly in part due to the popularity of social media. Related to the same, I believe all schools should teach civility and conduct for interacting online as well as in person.
