We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Roger Ribeiro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Roger, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
To keep my creativity alive I do some daily stimulation, firstly I like to play sports, specifically fighting, I have been practicing jiu jitsu, capoeira and muay thai for almost 20 years, I like traveling, watching films, reading books, immersing myself in music and especially talking to people, each experience I hear about leaves me stimulated and motivated with new ideas. Of course, all of this is only possible because I am a dreamer, I believe that imagining different scenarios and situations encourages me to do so.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I was born in Brazil in São Paulo, the capital, there I started studying theater, cinema and TV as a child, I did several plays, films, soap operas, series, web series, I work as an Actor, Screenwriter, Director and Producer, I have in my career 4 awards as Best Actor, 4 awards as Producer and Director 4, several honorable mentions and 28 nominations at International Film Festivals, his work has been nominated and recognized by Paul Brown (Producer of Fried Green Tomatoes) and Eric Shermann (Producer of High Crimes), today he is Juror and Curator of the LABRFF – Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival, Curator of the Wild & Scenic Festival and Production Assistant of the LALIFF Festival – Los Angeles Latino Film Festival. I recently worked as an Actor on Horror Nights at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, it was a wonderful experience and I will work again in 2024.
I have a YouTube channel with a partnership on Instagram and Facebook called “Senta na Plateia” where I give tips on how people can become actors and actresses, there I show and also tell my experience as an Afro Latino living and working in Los Angeles, some films that are scheduled to premiere at international festivals, I recently won two awards, one in Portugal for best Actor and another for best Pilot at another festival, this one in Hollywood – Los Angeles, both with the web series Connection, I ask that everyone stay tuned to my social networks because I produce a lot of content for those who want to enter the audiovisual world, and I show all Afro-Latinos that the dream is possible.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Believe a lot in your dream and be sure to improve your skills, many people have dreams and goals and give up at the first obstacles. You are the size of your dream, so go after it, because it is possible, stay close to people who encourage you, always try to be updated and prepared so that when the opportunity arrives you can take advantage of it.
Persist and persevere, go after what is yours and make it happen!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Currently I continue working as an Actor and Influencer, I look for companies and brands that want to explore and have Latin clients, I have a great engagement in the Latin community (Brazilians, Mexicans, Argentines, Spanish and Portuguese) due to my profile, so I want to inform you that I am in the search for partnerships aimed at growth, specifically in areas such as: sports, healthy drinks, fitness, food, arts, books, fashion and family products.
