We recently connected with Rosalee Henry and have shared our conversation below.
Rosalee, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is a quality that has been deeply ingrained in me through a series of life experiences and challenges.
Growing up in Jamaica, I was surrounded by strong women in my family who navigated life’s ups and downs with grace and determination. My mother, in particular, was a significant influence. She became a single mom with of two after our dad was murdered, often working long hours and facing challenging situations with unwavering dedication. Watching her, I learned the importance of perseverance and the power of a positive mindset.
One pivotal moment that truly shaped my resilience was when I decided to start my own maternal care agency. Leaving a stable job to venture into the unknown was daunting, but I was driven by a vision to make a real difference in the birthing and community health sectors. The early days were filled with sleepless nights, financial uncertainties, and countless rejections. Yet, each setback was a lesson, teaching me to adapt, innovate, and push forward.
A particularly challenging period was when I faced a major project failure. A large contract fell through at the last minute, putting my business in a precarious position. Instead of succumbing to despair, I took this as an opportunity to reevaluate and pivot. I delved into understanding market needs more deeply, revamped my strategies, and sought out new collaborations. This experience not only strengthened my business but also fortified my resolve to overcome any obstacle.
Moreover, I have always believed in continuous learning and self-improvement. Attending workshops, seeking mentorship, and staying updated with industry trends have been crucial in fostering resilience. These practices have equipped me with the tools to navigate challenges effectively and emerge stronger.
Ultimately, my resilience is a blend of inspiration from my roots, lessons from my entrepreneurial journey, and an unwavering commitment to my mission. It’s about embracing failures as stepping stones, maintaining a growth mindset, and relentlessly pursuing my goals despite the odds.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, there are three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have been most impactful: Resilience and Adaptability: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and adapt to changing circumstances has been crucial. Entrepreneurship is filled with uncertainties, and being able to remain steadfast in the face of challenges is vital. To develop resilience, I recommend embracing a growth mindset. View failures as learning opportunities and stay flexible in your approach. Practicing mindfulness and self-care can also help maintain mental and emotional strength.
Customer-Centric Mindset: Putting the customer at the center of your business strategy ensures that you meet their needs and exceed their expectations. Understanding customer behavior, preferences, and feedback is crucial for improving your products and services. To cultivate a customer-centric mindset, actively seek customer feedback, conduct market research, and stay engaged with your customers through various channels. Implement changes based on feedback and always strive to enhance the customer experience.
Time Management and Organization: Managing time effectively and staying organized are fundamental skills for productivity and efficiency. These skills help prioritize tasks, avoid burnout, and ensure that important deadlines are met. To improve time management, use tools like calendars, planners, and project management software. Set clear goals, break tasks into manageable steps, and eliminate distractions. Regularly review and adjust your schedule to ensure it aligns with your priorities.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to
Cultivate Resilience: Start by setting small, achievable goals and gradually challenge yourself with bigger tasks. Reflect on past experiences to identify your strengths and areas for improvement. Build a support network of mentors, peers, and advisors who can provide guidance and encouragement.
Adopt a Customer-Centric Approach: Regularly engage with customers through surveys, feedback forms, and social media. Make customer satisfaction a core value of your business.
Improve Time Management: Use time-tracking tools, set clear daily and weekly goals, and create a system to organize tasks and priorities effectively.
