We were lucky to catch up with Rose Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rose , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I discovered my true passion for storytelling and founded my own publishing company, Ozion Publishing Group, to bring my literary visions to life. As an accomplished fiction author, I’m known for my engaging novel series, “The Chronicles of Integrated Friends,” which keeps readers eagerly anticipating each new installment.
I’ve also published a writing workbook, a self publishing workbook and a Journal for Writers through Ozion that provide valuable guidance to aspiring writers looking to enhance their craft. I offer personalized coaching programs to empower authors on their creative journeys.
Through Ozion Publishing and my writing pursuits, I’ve embraced my purpose in life – to share my literary knowledge and empower writers to reach their full potential. My novels, workbooks, Journal for writers and coaching align with this mission as I help writers hone their skills and achieve success.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My passion is helping aspiring authors bring their stories to life.
My own journey to becoming an author and publisher was full of twists and turns. I started my career climbing the corporate ladder, where I sometimes faced limitations as a woman of color. But I never lost sight of my lifelong love of storytelling.
After 40+ years in the corporate world, I decided to take a leap of faith and launch my own publishing company. It was incredibly rewarding but challenging to jump into entrepreneurship and learn the ins and outs of publishing.
What fuels me every day is getting to live my purpose. I feel so fulfilled guiding other writers to share their unique narratives with the world. My goal is to increase diverse voices and perspectives in published books.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, staying active, and of course, reading! I’m so grateful to blend my passion for writing with my business expertise. Thank you for giving me the chance to share a little about my inspiring journey!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to pick just three qualities that are most important to develop, I’d say empathy, curiosity, and resilience. Empathy allows us to understand and connect with others on a deeper level. Curiosity drives us to keep learning, growing, and exploring life with an open mind. And resilience gives us the strength to overcome challenges and bounce back from adversity. With empathy, we can build strong relationships. With curiosity, we can continue to learn and expand our horizons every day. And with resilience, we can weather any storm. These three qualities work together to help us live meaningful, purposeful lives where we uplift others and reach our full potential.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is an aspiring author who is truly passionate about writing and committed to honing their craft. They have a strong desire to either write compelling fiction or nonfiction books, or children’s books.
Above all, my perfect client loves the art of storytelling and wants to improve their narrative skills to engage readers. They’re willing to put in the hard work it takes to go from novice to skilled writer.
An ideal client is open and receptive to feedback so we can collaborate to identify areas for growth. They actively apply the writing techniques and storytelling principles we cover in their own work.
Someone who is eager to learn all aspects of the writing craft – from developing multi-dimensional characters, to plotting gripping stories, to employing vivid sensory details – makes an ideal student. We can dig deep into the elements of impactful writing together.
My best clients also understand the business side of writing. They are interested in self-publishing routes to keep control of their creations and are ready to learn how to effectively publish and market a book.
Above all, an ideal client believes in their talent and potential. They are resilient when faced with rejections or setbacks, persisting through challenges. My goal is to nurture their confidence and help them fully unlock their gifts.
If someone is enthusiastic about writing, willing to work hard at their craft, and believes in their capacity for growth, they would make a fantastic client. I’m excited to empower passionate writers on their journey!
