Meet Ryan Massiah

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ryan Massiah. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Ryan, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem, by staying focused on my goals in life and doing things to the best of my abilities.

Initially from a young age, I was always self-aware of who I am as a person. Therefore it became natural.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a Toronto-born multi-disciplinary graphic designer, specializing in motion design and 3D, for film, TV, games and advertising, based in Los Angeles. I have been fortunate to have been in the industry for almost 20 years. I have been working with various design studios and agencies.

Since being in Los Angeles, I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and I am grateful for the experience.

The new projects that I have been involved with have been with the amazingly talented team at Logan, working on projects for clients, ranging from Apple (AirPods Pro and Apple Music), to a Meta campaign, celebrating with the possibilities of the metaverse.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1 – Talent/Curious

Looking back at my career, I would say that you definitely need some sort of talent to pursue any career goal. You don’t necessarily need to be the ‘best’ however staying curious and asking questions will go a long way in learning as much as you can about your chosen profession.

2 – Passionate/Good work ethic

Be passionate about what you put out into the world. Your love for your career/craft will push you to places where others would most likely give up. Also knowing that it’s not going to be an easy road. This leads to having a good work ethic and allocating enough time each day to keep your skills and industry knowledge sharp.

3 – Resilience

The road ahead isn’t going to be easy. You are DEFINITELY going to have a lot of setbacks. And how you deal with those setbacks, will dictate what happens next. I am an optimistic person, therefore my perspective on life is quite different from others. However, I am aware that while something seems hard now, it’s usually only temporary. This allows you to go back to the drawing board to try and figure out where you went wrong. Then improve and excel.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you? (Question) –

The most impactful thing my parent has done for me is that my mother instilled in me love and support for whatever path I chose to pursue in life. And ongoing communication in regards to who I associated with and humbleness.

Also, I would have to most likely work twice as hard as my fellow colleagues, in order to achieve similar success in life.

I try my best to put 110% into everything that I am doing. Regardless if it is a mundane project or something groundbreaking.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

Presently the particular challenge that I am facing is to get involved in creating more main title sequence projects. A common thing in our industry is that you need to show on your portfolio, the types of projects that you would like to work on. One of my favorite personal/recent projects was the fan-made main title sequence, that I created for the tv series LOST.

I was hoping that it would bridge the gap in showing that I could create these types of projects. However it didn’t get the amount of traffic / viral attention I was ideally hoping for despite the fact, that I was very pleased with the final output.

If anyone reads this and needs a title sequence for their movie or tv show, please feel free to reach out.
