Meet Sabrina Kaylor

We were lucky to catch up with Sabrina Kaylor recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina , so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
Truthfully, I would keep forcing myself to be creative… even if it didn’t “come” to me. As an avid painter for many years, there would be times where I would walk past my studio and just look inside to see if inspiration came and if it didn’t for several days, I knew I needed to just paint. I would grab a canvas I didn’t really care about and just start to play. Splash of paint here, colors there and just literally mess around and usually, within this play, inspiration would come and If it didn’t immediately, I kept doing it.

I also find that spending time alone and moving my body is conducive to inspiration and creative flows. There is something about that blood flowing and being by myself that would allow a deep introspection and the ideas just come.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the proud owner of Bizarre Coffee in Downtown, Canton GA. We are a tiny 500 sqft coffee shop that roasts all of our own coffee down the street, is known for our extensive specialty drink menu and crafting delicious breakfast and lunch items. The shop is filled with bright colors, artwork and cozy welcome all vibes. Our company is celebrating our 3rd year in Canton and are also opening a 2nd location in Woodstock this fall.

As a business owner, I am constantly looking for ways to streamline our process, continue to build a brand that resonates and inspires people and connect with our customers in extraordinary ways. With technology and the state of the world now, amazing customer service is hard to come by and you pair that with a consistent product it becomes even more rare. We want to be one of the exceptions and make a REAL impact in peoples day. Our brand is funky, fun and imaginative and it’s exactly what I hoped it would be… a little BIZARRE. We can truly evolve and express ourselves over time and continue to develop something that’s unique and recognizable amongst the masses.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
– A vision and a willingness to accomplish it. Truly, I never thought ANYTHING was out of reach.

– Creativity. As a creative at heart, being different was something I would PRIDE myself on and I think that’s been an amazing competitive advantage for me. Thinking outside of the box and challenging are things we do often.

– Determination. I truly won’t give up if there is something that I want and as stated above, it’s the mindset that I can get it that keeps me pushing. I think people give up way too soon when things don’t work out immediately.

I think people early in their journey really just need to be willing to put in the time and do the work behind the scenes. Just make a list and start crossing it off one at a time. It’s a lot. It’s overwhelming. But if you show up to do the work every single day, your list will get smaller. You can’t expect someone to put in the work, if you won’t yourself.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Winning by Tim Grover. It’s amazing what mental toughness can do for you and how critical it is in your journey. Your mentality and your belief in yourself is what will take you to the next level.
