We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sam Carrell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sam, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My self-discipline comes from growing up in a dance studio. My mother has owned a dance school since I was born, so I grew up dancing and in that environment. There is nothing that prepares you for life like the world of dance. Dance teaches you overall discipline, structure, focus, how to communicate, how to be a team member, healthy life skills, never to give up, and most of all, how to remain strong and positive, even in a difficult situation. These skills I learned from being in the world of dance have made a positive impact on all of my endeavors and make me more successful and driven throughout life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a professional Actor, Dancer and Model with credits on tv, film and stage. own a childrens dance school and am the owner/manager of two actor/model/social media celebrity pups; Tinkerbelle The Dog & Belle The Dog. I manage my time between the dance school and working with the pups. Working with the pups is 24-7. Work with the pups brings me on International/National travels, to TV/modeling sets in NYC and California plus creating/shooting their social media content for product partnerships and daily posts. I know that my dance background is what has made me successful with Tinkerbelle & Belle. It is a very busy, hard schedule, but I would NEVER change a thing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My top skills, qualities and knowledge that have positively impacted my journey are; Structure
Discipline
Positivity
Professionalism
First impressions are always what matters. I know when I walk onto a set, I am representing not just myself, but Tinkerbelle and Belle. So I make sure that the package you have booked is more than you expected. Not just dressing by professionally, but acting by professionally under all circumstances.
My advice to all is to never give up. Hard work really does pay off. Just believe in yourself and it will happen.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
The hardest thing for me right now is to balance the dance school and the pups schedule. This is very challenging at times BUT I have a great group of people that are always there to help me out. It takes a team – for everything in life. Success is all about who you surround yourself with and who your team is. Like Minded people who are there for you and pitch in when needed. Success is all about your Team.
