Meet Samiya Jakubowicz

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samiya Jakubowicz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samiya below.

Samiya, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Self-esteem was always a struggle for me as an adolescent. I always wanted to fit in and often was on the receiving end of bullying based on physical attributes/being an Indian kid in a predominately white community. I threw myself in dance growing up and worked hard to become good at it so I felt confident in something, when most days at school my confidence was low. I was really fortunate to have a family that loved and nurtured me and 2 older sisters who always supported me. Finding different social supports outside of school (in dance) really helped fuel my self-esteem and also gave me the opportunity to express myself. Going to college was also a pivotal moment for me where I just finally felt comfortable in my skin and grounded in who I was.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a digital content creator here in Las Vegas. I was born and raised in South Florida and moved out to Vegas over 10 years ago. While working full-time as an LCSW for a behavioral health MCO, I grew my social channels that primarily focus on food and entertainment, as well as lifestyle and family.

Food has always been a big part of my culture and family life. We love exploring new recipes and finding Vegas restaurants ignited my love of creating content. During Covid is when I pivoted my restaurant content to include at home recipes. I also branched out with travel and entertainment around that time.

I feel incredibly grateful to live in Las Vegas. I have had so many amazing experiences and opportunities here and could not be more thankful for this community. Moving from FL as a new mom, I didn’t know how I would find a support system here and now I can’t even imagine not having these amazing people in my life.

In the past 5+ years my account has exceeded any expectations I ever truly ever had. So Whenever anyone asks me what’s next? I say who knows, sky’s the limit!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities I think that have been impactful for my social media journey is definitely being open to trying new things/meeting new people. Just really throwing myself in situations that might not be the most comfortable but just putting myself out there. Also really letting go of what others think of you. If it is something I want to do, commit and ignore the background noise. Easier said than done, but I really try to just focus on what makes me happy and not what others think. Lastly just asking questions, being interested, & taking all the opportunities that come my way as a learning opportunity. My advice is if it is something your passionate about or makes you feel happy inside, do it!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed I take a step back and give myself grace and space. That means it is time to put the phone down, get outside, move my body, or spend time with my family. Anything to really make me feel grounded again. Social Media comes with burnout and you have to have a short memory and know when to take breaks.
