Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sammy Ruiz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sammy, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I’ve developed confidence and self esteem primarily from doing good for others. A good looking person will always age and changes to our physical appearance is sometimes out of our control. Despite all of that, we can always do good for others which creates truth self esteem.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Sammy Ruiz is a Left-Handed Artist, Musician & Writer originating from North East Los Angeles, CA. He works predominantly in the medium of paint, pencil, pen, maker and graphic art. Sammy fuses a rebellious mood into his off-beat, mysteriously-grim characters, designs and illustrations. Sammy is influenced by extraordinary artists like, Tim Burton, Ed Roth, Marc Davis, Jose Clemente Orozco and Francisco Goya but he is equally influenced by authors and filmmakers. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In this ongoing creative journey I am on, there are a few main lessons that pop out to me. Persistence and work ethic will always trump talent. I think talent is a part of the equation but we all know so many talented people who do not have drive. Being open to feedback and be adaptive are important as well. Most importantly, my mom always told me that “if you hang around 5 millionaires, you will be the 6th”. The company we choose will change the outcome of your life story.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents have done was allowing me to express myself. Whether I wanted a mohawk, tattoos, to be an artist or be a musician, they’ve always supported me.
