Meet Sanya Minocha

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sanya Minocha a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sanya, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Namaste! It’s wonderful to be here.

Like many others, I grew up experiencing very low self esteem. I had confidence, but this confidence was based on the projections of what others could see in me. It wasn’t something I felt deep in my bones.

I developed more confidence and a solid identity through recognising the inherent value I hold as “Sanya”. Instead of basing this directly on my external achievements (which happened automatically due to childhood & societal conditioning), I started seeing myself through the eyes of beauty, exactly as I am, regardless of what I could “do” for others. Many years ago, when I became aware of how unloving I was being towards myself, I decided to stop waiting for someone to come and “save” me, and instead, I became the love I was seeking by radically being there for myself through thick and thin. I practice loving the parts of myself that feel “too much”, and meet myself with love and compassion, in exactly the way that I wished a parent, partner, lover or friend would.

True confidence arises from meeting ourselves with love (especially our so-called “flaws”), and recognising our uniqueness.

When we’re willing to take responsibility for our lives and take the time to truly know ourselves, confidence oozes out of us.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Sanya Minocha. I’m an Indian-born, Kiwi woman, residing in the beautiful land of Aotearoa. I’m passionate about guiding people back home to themselves – especially those that have exhausted the external search for happiness. I see myself as a conduit and channel through which the divine expresses itself and orchestrates the symphony of life.

Like most, my character has gone through many ups and downs. Each of these experiences has helped shape me into the Warrior Goddess that I am. Love is my muse! It inspires me to live with an open heart, drives my actions, and motivates me to keep showing up courageously in life.

I started my coaching practice “Kenshō Wellness”, 6+ years ago, after my very first experience of seeing my true nature. This glimpse was enough to transform my entire life. After the initial Awakening, there were many catalysts that brought me to the point of breaking. Only later did I realise that every time I felt like I was at breaking point, I was actually breaking through.

One of those experiences was suffering from chronic pain. This gift was handed to me to help shift me towards alignment within myself. The recovery from chronic pain, co-dependancy, unworthiness and low self esteem was confronting, and challenging. I was divinely guided through each step, and this rite of passage led me to helping others.

For a long time, I helped clients from a place of deep pain and sorrow. But this was the fuel that helped me obtain a level of self mastery (one that will continue for the rest of my life), and helped light the way for my clients to get out of their suffering, and into recognition of their Soul.

My work is known to be deeply healing, and offers the kind of support and safety that gives my clients the ability to blossom into their fullest expression. Our work enables them to recognise their value, develop confidence to pursue their dreams (which often feels risky), trust themselves, love & be there for themselves in the way they truly need, and feel free to express their wild, messy, human selves, without hesitation, worrying about rejection or what others will think of them.

My mission is to support people in finding their place of calm and centredness, amongst the chaos and uncertainty of life. To help them tap into the inherent source of love, residing in the centre of their chest, and live in accordance with their Soul in this life time. I’m here to help create the experience of heaven on Earth, and I do this by recognising the Heaven within, and through that embodiment, leading others to this space within themselves.

I also love expressing myself through sound and movement. Writing songs, singing and dancing helps me alchemise and move the energy of emotions through my body, and bring validity to my experience.

Some of my favourite daily practices and Sadhana includes: Vipassana, Yoga & Shamanism.

I’d love to hear from you!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

  1.  Learning to be self compassionate. This is a skill that we tend to easily extend towards those we love, but the ability to be self compassionate is often a big part of what we need during difficult times. I’ve learnt to cultivate the skill over time, and built the muscle of compassion, over criticism. I’ve recognised that self criticism doesn’t work. It doesn’t make me do or be better, in fact, it adds more pain to the experience. So instead, I’ve decided to be radically self compassionate and speak to myself with love and kindness, even if I’m the one at fault and need to take some responsibility for my actions. Practicing self-compassion goes a long way.
  2. Practicing Meditation. I started meditating when I was 22 years old. It was my solace when I worked at a busy advertising agency, and was experiencing a lot of anxiety. I recall the first time as a child when I became aware of the voice in my head. I was 14, and I thought this voice was me. Ever since then, I’ve felt tortured by this voice, because it wasn’t kind, and would often distract me from the present moment. Meditation showed me who I was, and helped me understand who I was not. It helped me to become responsive, instead of reactive, increased my level of awareness, made me more compassionate and helped me experience many moments of stillness and presence.
Developing a daily meditation routine is extremely important. This form of exercise is perfect for the mind, and the benefits are endless. I’m passionate about teaching others how to meditate because often people give up on this practice, or don’t even begin because they think it’s not working or that they’re doing it wrong. It’s important to find a meditation practice that works for you, practice consistently over a period of time, until it becomes a habit (like brushing your teeth), and have no expectations from your practice. This is when it works wonders. Contact me through my website if you’d like to be guided through this process. It’s a skill worth learning, and it’s necessary to function in an optimal way.
  3. Being curious. It’s easy to be judgemental when we’re improving and developing ourselves, especially because we don’t have a yard stick to measure our progress. We’re using our own minds to work on improving ourselves. You see where the confusion is? I’ve learnt to be curious and practice this whenever I notice an uncomfortable emotion or undesired circumstance arise. Being curious allows the experience to be revealed, without resistance. It also encourages self observation. When we observe something and become curious about it, it has the potential to transform through this single act of observation. It’s also an in-built skill, that’s easy to cultivate. Again, all it takes is consistent practice.

Everything requires practice. To have an amazing life experience, we must practice these skills. But, they must be practiced without expectation. Give it all you’ve got, and before you know it, you’ll be living an entirely new reality. One that feels aligned, and reflective of your new way of operating and being.

“When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we play music the playing itself is the point. And exactly the same thing is true in meditation. Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment.” – Alan Watts

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I’ve learnt to surrender. I resisted aspects of myself and my reality for a long time. I went against “what is”, and this exhausted my mind. I see this exhaustion as an integral part of coming into surrender.

On a more practical level, surrender looks like: listening to my body, trusting it’s wisdom and following my intuition, (regardless of where it takes me). I never know what’s going to unfold (no-one does), but when I recieve a nudge from my Soul, I go with it. No questions asked, and somehow, it always works out 😉

Surrender in business looks like going with the flow, not grasping or holding on too tightly to the “plan”, and listening to mySelf intentively, in every moment. It looks like not taking things personally when things don’t work out, and trusting that I’m being guided. It also looks like going ALL IN, without expectation or attachment to the outcome. E.g. I recently started a new arm of my business, where I offer Wellbeing programs to leaders and teams at organisations, to help them overcome stress and take better care of themselves. Delving into this has been a huge learning curve, and I’ve been practicing surrender at every turn.

Surrender in love looks like not seeking or chasing a relationship or partner anymore. Learning to feel content on my own, and building a life that I absolutely love and I’m crazy about. Surrender in love is also about recognising that I am already whole and complete, and in those moments where I don’t feel it, surrendering to the grief or sadness that arises.

Surrender looks like allowing life to guide me, being open and receptive to life, and co-creating my reality in partnership with the divine (the Soul). It’s freeing, liberating and freaking scary at times. It makes me feel alive!
