Meet Sarah Banker

We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Banker recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Hello : ) I would say I get my resilience from my life experiences. We all face obstacles and challenges in some way or another. I believe if we utilize each challenge as an opportunity to grow, our resilience strengthens like a muscle.

For instance, as I mentioned in my TEDx presentation titled “Our Love”, I have experienced a number of traumatic events throughout my childhood and adult life that shook me to my core; suicidal parents, physical abuse, neglect, lies, etc.. As a child I don’t think we have any other option than to be resilient in some shape or form; it’s a instinctual survival mechanism. As an adult it’s been a moment to moment practice to keep moving forward with determination and hope. Hope that with intention and action life situations and circumstances that have kept me down can shift to growth opportunities. Opening up a life of endless possibilities.

Throughout the years I keep proving myself right, strengthening my resolve and determination to keep moving forward with compassion and resilience. Compassion for my wounds and shortcomings and resilience to keep on keeping on. You know what I mean? The details of the trauma are not important what is important is that my experience is not unique. There are so many of us who have been wounded by our past, and it is our individual responsibilities to heal for our own sake, the sake of our families and communities.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am Sarah of Sarah Banker Music, a songwriter and performing artist with the intention to be a source of light and love through sound. I am an advocate for compassion and resilience on the individual and communal level.

Uncomfortable and heart-wrenching circumstances happen, but if we take on life’s challenges with humility, respect and curiosity, we can harness the opportunity to reveal our infinite potential as individuals and as the collective. Recently, I exhibited my philosophy that drives my music during my TEDxCherry Creek presentation titled “Our Love”, which sets the stage for my upcoming music releases throughout 2024.

The first song to hit all streaming services is “OUR LOVE” which was on April 11th. I began writing OUR LOVE shortly after my dad had passed away, unearthing a truth of my life that rocked my world. At first I was a victim, feeling sorry for myself. Doomed to walked the earth with this chip on my should. One day made the decision that I wanted more for my life.

I allowed the truth of the matter to open up a space for honesty, acceptance, compassion for myself and my feelings which blossomed into compassion for others involved. OUR LOVE came from the understanding that we all have wounds, and are doing the best with what we have. We owe it to ourselves to prioritize our own healing.

Love is a constant practice of resilience, kindness, acceptance, gratitude, compassion first for self then for others. This Love is contagious, it spreads from within then out to our family, our friends, our community. Spoiler alert, you’re the one you’ve been waiting for…Let your love guide the way. Your love will change the world. The peace we all seek is ours for the creating.

OUR LOVE is meant to bring warmth to your heart, hope into your thoughts, a pep in your step, and a smile on your face. Be sure to check it out! There is a link below where you can listen to it on your favorite streaming service.

Next up to be released COCKADOODLEDOOO on May 16th. This is a fun one you won’t want to miss!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The advice I give to people who are just starting out in any field is to stay hungry. Stay hungry for growth, for knowledge and experiences. That’s the fun of it!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed I focus on my breath. Sounds simple but it’s not always easy. I practice what is called “box breath”. I start with 4 sec breaths in, hold for 4 seconds and exhale for 6 seconds, hold for 4 seconds then start the cycle all over again. It has been very helpful in times of stress or nervousness.
