Meet Sarah Fleischhauer

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Fleischhauer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Sarah, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
Self-care is one of those things that we know is necessary for a work-life balance or to avoid burnout as parents. We also do not give ourselves that period of rest to hit the reset button as often as we know we should. I am guilty of this and have been for many years. The world moves so much quicker than it used to, you will look at the clock Monday morning but before you blink, it’s Sunday evening…where in the world did all that time go? The laundry is piled up on the couch, the dishes are mounded in the sink, the bare fridge sits in front of you while rifling for a late-night snack…there is always something to do. We feel as if there are only two viable options. Either you stay up super late, running on fumes to finish the housework, or you let it keep accumulating. I know for me, it’s one or the other. My ADHD sometimes makes it impossible for me to see past those tasks where I am lagging but it also makes it so my brain just won’t do it- the task seems too daunting. IYKYK. My fellow neurodivergent peers will know exactly what I am talking about. You want to, but you just can’t.

One of the things I have forced myself to unlearn is the fact that everything has to be done in order to take some time to yourself. Society places such pressure on us to keep up with the Joneses down the block. I used to be one of those people who cared what others thought but now- if you see me on my front lawn in my fuzzy robe with a bun hanging off the side of my head grabbing the mail…mind your biscuits. We all get burnt out, it’s just a part of life. Don’t forget to take care of yourself. Self-care looks different for everyone. Some might use retail therapy-don’t judge us…if we want to stroll every single aisle at Target with an overpriced coffee in our hands, let us. Maybe you like golfing or going to the gym…that’s fine! You do you honey!

I tend to find my solace doing things I love, but never have the time for. I try to take at least 2 hours a week (sometimes that requires waking up before the sun, but it’s worth it) to do just one thing that makes me happy. Some days it’s cooking, some days it might be going to the range with my partner. No matter what I happen to be in the mood for that day, I always try to sit back and observe the things around me to sort of ground myself and slow down. It has definitely made a huge difference in my work-life balance. It doesn’t matter if you have to quite literally pencil it into your schedule, just do it! I promise your productivity will flourish when your brain isn’t as cloudy. I find it so much easier to bust through my work when I’m fresh off a self-care day (unless it’s a Monday, of course). Moral of the story, take care of yourself. You are the biggest investment you’ll ever make,

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Photography is an escape from my big-girl job. I absolutely love being able to think outside the box and capture memories that you can never get back once they’re gone. Fall is the busiest time for photographers, but I would love to have you in front of my lens soon so don’t wait to schedule those fall mini sessions or Christmas card photos!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Learn from your peers, ask them questions. There is no such thing as a bad question.

Be creative, think outside the box! Let those ideas flow.

Don’t confine yourself to just one label, evolve your business to fit your personal style- I promise someone will appreciate it!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
I absolutely love when a client starts the conversation with ” this might sound crazy but…” That is the BEST thing I could hear. It means it’s time to get the creative juices flowing…and I thrive on the chaos!
